Thanks everyone. DH is exhausted (both mentally & physically). He was on a 3-day trip when he got the news so he hasn't slept much. He wanted to divert out of the trip, but MIL told him not to. He got home @ 7:00 this morning and is napping now, I'll know what he's going to do later today.

On another note. I was reading the registration info since I need to cancel my trip. The paperwork says no refunds after Dec 15th, only for extenuating circimstances. I need to call today and talk to the registrar. I would think that this would be considered extenuating - would you?

In my opinion extenuating circumstances means there is no way you could attend. I think your situation definitely falls under that description.
 
Sorry to hear she's not doing well. She, your husband and you will be in my prayers...

I am sure they will understand at HO. This company is based on family values and if they don't think that is a good enough excuse, I think that it'll be a cold day in you-know-where.
