The best potty training I kno how to do is set the timer start at every 15 minutes if they go a day without an accident the next day 20 minutes and so on in a week you will have a potty trained child...I used this method with my daughters some 16 or so years ago, and now have a day care and I still use it and it is a wonderful method...I have even had friends use it and it worked great...It trains not only them but you too...lol

Michelle... I didn't have time to read the other responses but feel for you on the potty training... I tried every method I was told about and even made up some of my own... here's what worked for us... we had some big travels coming up just like you did and he needed to be potty trained for preschool this fall... Just suggestions.. hope some work for you!
1. Take a break... put him back in pullups for your trip. Don't stress yourself out about it... it's supposed to be vacation... (we were not leaving a line at Disneyland to go potty 5 times!
2. Rewards! Mine was just over 3 this summer when he finally got it and we'd been trying since 2 with him getting it then completely regressing... A reward system finally worked. He got one treat at the store he got to pick out (candy/small toy/trip to McDonald's/whatever) for trying one time a day for a week. The next week he had to actually GO once in the potty 5 out of 7 days. The next week he had to have dry days 4 of 7 days... you get the picture... we worked up to a full week no accidents and then moved on to poopy... he was completely done with everything within about 5 weeks! We'd pick out what he wanted for next weeks toy at the store when we were buying that weeks so he new exactly what he was looking forward to.
3. We had a new baby coming, so I think that helped out, but we told him diapers were for babies and he was a big boy... the very next day he refused his pullup! He did NOT want to be a baby!
4. You might try teaching him a non verbal sign (signlanguage maybe or make up your own) for when he has to go.
Good Luck... I know how frustrating this is and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your little guy!

Oh boy! Lots of great "horror" stories! LOL My DD will be 4-1/2 in January and still not fully trained!!! Peeing is fine, but pooping, is a different story. The child couldn't care less if she was dirty! Right now, we have a "duck bank" going. She gets a quarter everytime she poops in the toilet for feeding the ducks at the zoo in the summer. That's not working great, so I came up with a new story, which I'm hoping will sink in soon.....

You see, she keeps telling me that she doesn't want to get bigger. She actually wants to go to the store to find magic pills that will keep her from growing!! LOL So, the other day, I told her that she had to poop in the toilet so that the "Growing Fairy" would think she was a big girl and wouldn't make her grow. So far, so good. I'm hoping that'll do the trick and that by the time she realizes that I'm lying (shame on me! :o) she'll be trained! ;)

Oh, and we only wear "Goodnights" (which we call "sleepy pants") at night, 'cause she won't wake up to pee during the night.
