kcjodih said:Thanks everyone. I did a box mix - not sure of the size and too tired to get up and go look but it makes a two layer cake and requires 1/3 cup oil, 1 1/4 cups water, and 3 eggs. Temp was 350 and I started with 40 min as suggested and it was still liquid in the centre, not even to the gooey stage yet, so I added another 15 - gooey then, then another 15. So it looks like it took 70 min in my new oven. I finally found my notes and it was 75 in my old one.
I wonder why mine takes longer than everyone elses?
The standard temperature for baking most cakes is 350°F (175°C). This temperature allows for even baking and helps achieve a nice rise and texture.
Most cakes will take between 25 to 35 minutes to bake at 350°F, depending on the size and type of cake. It's important to check for doneness by inserting a toothpick in the center; if it comes out clean or with a few crumbs, the cake is done.
If you forgot to preheat the oven, it's best to preheat it to the desired temperature before placing your cake inside. Baking a cake in a cold oven can lead to uneven baking and affect the texture.
While you can bake a cake at a higher temperature, it’s not recommended as it can cause the outside to cook too quickly while leaving the inside undercooked. It's best to stick to the recommended temperature for the best results.
You can check if your cake is done by inserting a toothpick or cake tester into the center. If it comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs, the cake is ready. Additionally, the edges should start to pull away from the sides of the pan.
