Mp3 Player That Went Through Washer/Dryer

SUMMARY

MP3 players that have gone through both the washer and dryer face significant risk of irreversible water damage. While some users suggest placing the device in a bowl of rice to absorb moisture, this method is less effective if the device has also been exposed to the dryer. Air-drying the device for several days is recommended as a preliminary step, but the likelihood of recovery diminishes greatly after such exposure. Ultimately, purchasing a new MP3 player may be necessary if the device remains non-functional.

Not sure where to post this. Is there any way to save a MP3 player that accidentally went through washer and dryer? We've taken it apart to let it air-dry but don't know if that will work.

i had a neighbor once say her son's went through the washer, and they just put the whole ipod into a bowl of rice and left it for a couple days. the rice pulled the moisture out and it works find. but hers didn't go through the dryer. my brother had this happen (go through both washer and dryer) and he tried the rice and it didn't work...i'm thinking because it went through the dryer. he ended up getting a new one for christmas from santa

Arbonne InternationalUnfortunately, there is a high chance that the MP3 player will not be salvageable after going through the washer and dryer. Water damage can cause irreversible damage to electronic devices. However, you can try leaving the device to air-dry completely for a few days before attempting to turn it on. If it still does not work, you may need to consider purchasing a new MP3 player.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can an MP3 player that went through the washer and dryer be repaired?

In many cases, an MP3 player that has been through the washer and dryer may be damaged beyond repair, especially if it was powered on during the cycle. However, if you act quickly and take the necessary steps to dry it out, there is a chance it can be salvaged. Remove the battery (if possible), and place the device in a bag of uncooked rice or silica gel packets for at least 24-48 hours to absorb moisture.

What should I do immediately after my MP3 player goes through the washer and dryer?

Immediately turn off the MP3 player if it is still on, and do not attempt to charge it. Remove any removable parts, such as the battery and memory card. Gently wipe down the exterior with a dry cloth and then place the device in a bag of uncooked rice or silica gel to help absorb moisture. Avoid using a hair dryer or other heat sources, as they can cause further damage.

How long should I wait before trying to turn my MP3 player back on?

It is recommended to wait at least 24-48 hours before attempting to turn the MP3 player back on. This allows sufficient time for any internal moisture to evaporate. If you still notice any signs of moisture after this period, it’s best to wait longer before trying to power it on.

Is there a way to prevent my MP3 player from getting damaged in the future?

To prevent future incidents, consider using a waterproof case or pouch for your MP3 player, especially if you are using it in environments where it could be exposed to water. Additionally, develop a habit of checking your pockets before doing laundry to ensure that no electronic devices are left inside.

What are the signs that my MP3 player is permanently damaged?

Signs of permanent damage may include the device not turning on after drying, unusual sounds or behavior when powered on, a cracked screen, or corrosion on the internal components. If you notice any of these issues, it may be time to consider replacing the device rather than attempting further repairs.
