I'm a Little Neurotic About Caller Id/Leaving Messages

Click For Summary
Repeated calls without messages can lead to frustration when the recipient does not return the calls. The individual in this scenario expresses annoyance at a host who repeatedly calls but fails to leave a message. They emphasize their policy of not returning calls without messages and mention being unavailable when the calls occurred. Eventually, the host left a message, prompting a return call. The host was concerned due to the lack of communication and needed to relay urgent information regarding an order. This highlights the importance of leaving messages to ensure effective communication.

My host from Friday night keeps calling but she WON'T LEAVE A MESSAGE!!!!

I do not call people back if they don't leave a message. I will eventually call her to touch base with her about her show, but this is ridiculous! She has called several times today. If she calls again, maybe I'll pick up. I was honestly not available all the other times she has called so far. We'll see how long this lasts....

So if you ever call me and I don't pick up, leave a message and I'll call you back, okay? :)

She finally did call and leave a message and I called her back and got her voicemail and left her a message. She was worried about me b/c she had been calling for a couple days and hadn't reached me. When I explained to her that after her show on Friday, I also had one on Saturday and on Sunday and then today I had to take my son and myself for an eye exam, she seemed to understand. Turns out she has another order for me with someone's cc info and she wanted me to have it right away.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do if I see a missed call from someone I don't recognize?

If you see a missed call from an unknown number, it's best to wait a moment before deciding to call back. You can check if they left a voicemail, as this can provide context about the call. If no message is left, consider doing a quick online search of the number to see if it's associated with a business or service you might know.

How can I manage my anxiety about leaving voicemails?

To ease your anxiety about leaving voicemails, practice what you want to say beforehand. Keep your message brief and to the point, and remember that it's okay to sound human and imperfect. You can also write down key points you want to cover, which can help you feel more prepared and confident.

Is it necessary to leave a voicemail if I call someone and they don’t answer?

Leaving a voicemail is not always necessary, but it can be helpful if the call is important. A voicemail allows the person to know who called and why, which can prompt them to return your call. If the matter is urgent, it's often better to leave a message rather than leaving them guessing.

What if I’m uncomfortable with the idea of someone hearing my voicemail?

If you're uncomfortable with someone hearing your voicemail, consider using a more professional tone or script to help you feel more at ease. You can also mention that you'd prefer to discuss the matter in person or via text if that makes you feel more comfortable. Remember, everyone has their own quirks, and it's perfectly normal to feel this way.

How can I improve my caller ID skills to avoid unnecessary anxiety?

To improve your caller ID skills, familiarize yourself with your contacts and their numbers. You can also use apps that identify unknown callers or block spam calls. Additionally, practice answering calls confidently and consider setting boundaries for when you will answer or return calls, which can help reduce anxiety around the phone.
