  • One participant recalls a suggestion about placing handles at an angle in the oven to improve heat circulation, which may help prevent breakage.

  • Some participants note that temperature shocks from frozen foods could potentially lead to cracking, while others share personal stories of breakage during demonstrations.
  • One participant recounts a situation where they had to refund a customer after repeated breakages, highlighting the frustration of dealing with product failures.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Views differ on the reasons for the breakage, with some attributing it to user practices and others suggesting manufacturing defects. No clear consensus emerges regarding the reliability of the new stones with handles.

Who May Find This Useful

Consultants who are navigating customer concerns about product durability and replacements may find the shared experiences and suggestions relevant.

Ah but then you are using the old stone without handles and those just seem to be much better. I still have the very round stone that first introduced me to The Pampered Chef. It is now 11 years old, deep brown as can be and has never given me grief. My new round with handles, I have replaced 6 times since we first got them! I rarely use it for parties and I never use it at home for fear of having to replace yet another one! And I love that idea with the delivered pizza!

Work with HO on this one. They'll support you!

I JUST had my large bar pan crack in half! Pulled it out of a hot oven and set it on my stove top ... 2 mins later ... "POP!!!" :( I hope they replace it!!

Warning...this is long.....

:love::love::love::love::love:all my stones! I have 7 pieces altogether, with the oldest one being 4 yrs old (med. bar pan). I have never any of my stones break. I don't preheat them for any reason (and I have warned DH about storing any of them in the oven so that it doesn't happen accidentally). But I do place them on top of the stove when I take them out of the oven on the front burners (not on the back one where the open hole is).

I extoll the virtues of the stones at every show and rarely offer a show recipe that doesn't include a piece of stoneware.

HOWEVER, from every show (almost 30 shows, now) I have done since starting my business in Feb 2009 I have had at least one customer from every show call me about their stoneware breaking!! It is mostly the Med. & Large Bar Pans, but breakage has happened to DCB, LRSWH, RB and the MB, too. Without exception, every single customer has told me their stone broke in half while still in the oven. This is when they call me to tell me about the stoneware....."Debbie, my stone broke last night. I was cooking x, it was 1/2 through the cooking time and I heard a "POP" and when I checked the oven, the stone was cracked in half."

Sometimes, it was the 1st time they used it, sometimes a customer has used their stone for months & months. But I have facilitated the process of at least 30 stone replacements in 13 months. (I choose to call HO for my customers. I know that's not how some do it, but I have made that choice for my business)

So, I have to wonder what is going on with the stoneware line in general?? Has something changed with the materials used to create the stones since Feb 2009???

Its interesting to read about this. I always prewarn my customers about the risks, but even I've been able to put a frozen pizza right on the stone and into the oven without breakage for years. I've had several of my stones probably close to 10 years.

The stones I've broken have either been set on a stove-top eye that was still warm (dh), or accidently dropped.

Of courseI get calls from customers from time to time...
