Can You Double a Cake Mix in One Batter Bowl for Baking?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

Doubling a cake mix in one batter bowl is not recommended due to concerns about cooking time and potential overflow. Participants in the discussion suggest using two separate batter bowls to bake individual cakes, which can then be combined to create a larger cake, such as a football-shaped cake. Has anyone ever doubled a cake in the batter bowl? What temp and time for cooking? I'm making a football cake but remember the last one I made didn't seem big enough. Thanks....

If you have two batter bowls make a cake in each and then put the flat parts together and make a full football. Just a thought. No idea about two mixes in one bowl sorry.

I think two mixes in one bowl would not cook well and I really don't think the bowl is big enough. I would be afraid it would overflow.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you double a cake mix in one batter bowl for baking?

Yes, you can double a cake mix in one batter bowl, provided the bowl is large enough to accommodate the increased volume of the ingredients. Make sure to check the capacity of your batter bowl before proceeding.

What size batter bowl is recommended for doubling a cake mix?

A large batter bowl, typically with a capacity of at least 8 quarts, is recommended for doubling a cake mix. This ensures you have enough space for the dry ingredients, wet ingredients, and any additional mix-ins.

Do I need to adjust the baking time when doubling a cake mix?

Yes, when doubling a cake mix, you may need to adjust the baking time. Cakes typically take longer to bake when the batter is thicker or in a larger quantity. Start checking for doneness a few minutes earlier than the original recipe suggests.

Can I use the same baking pan for a doubled cake mix?

It depends on the size of your baking pan. If you double the cake mix, you may need to use a larger pan or multiple pans to ensure even baking. A 9x13 inch pan or two round pans are good options for a doubled recipe.

What should I do if I don't have a large enough batter bowl?

If you don't have a large enough batter bowl, consider mixing the ingredients in two separate bowls and then combining them in the baking pan. Alternatively, you can prepare the cake mix in batches to avoid overflow.
