I have a show tonight that we are making the cranberry orange bread pudding.
I didn't realise when i offered that recipe that it said "Do NOT use Nonstick cookware". I meant to borrow a S.S. skillet from my friend lastnight but i forgot while I was there and now i won;t have time to do it.

Do you think it is just because of the broiling that they say not to use it? Do you think it will still be good if I don;t broil it?

help meeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

It would be because of the broiling. Broiling is too high-temp for nonstick cookware. No suggestions as to an alternate product, though.

You might have to bring a surprise recipe with ingredients that you have on hand or do a catalogue walkthrough.

no idea why it wouldn't work and i don't have an alternative product either. :(

I did this without the broiling, and it was fine. I can't remember what temp the recipe calls for, but if it is over 400°F, then reduce it to 400 and cook it in the exec for a bit longer, and it will be fine.

I ended up using my Rectabgular baker and it turned out lovely! no broiling required!

You do need to have some kind of cookware on hand though to cook the cranberries.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I use instead of the S.S. Skillet for frying?

You can use a non-stick skillet, cast iron skillet, or stainless steel frying pan as alternatives for frying. Each option has its own benefits, such as better heat retention with cast iron or easy cleanup with non-stick surfaces.

Is there a specific type of non-stick skillet I should choose?

When selecting a non-stick skillet, look for one that is PFOA-free and has a durable coating. Brands that offer high-quality non-stick options include T-fal, Calphalon, and GreenPan.

Can I use a wok instead of the S.S. Skillet?

Yes, a wok can be a great alternative, especially for stir-frying or cooking dishes that require high heat and quick cooking times. Just ensure you adjust your cooking technique accordingly.

What about using a Dutch oven?

A Dutch oven can be used for braising or slow-cooking, but it may not be the best choice for frying due to its deeper sides. However, it can work well for recipes that require simmering or stewing.

Are there any specific brands recommended for alternative skillets?

Some recommended brands for skillets include All-Clad for stainless steel, Lodge for cast iron, and Cuisinart for non-stick options. Each brand offers quality products that can serve as effective alternatives to the S.S. Skillet.
