What should I do about host bonus dilemma?

Click For Summary
The thread discusses issues faced by a consultant regarding host specials and booking dates. A host expressed dissatisfaction after missing out on a more favorable host bonus for July, wishing to change her party date to benefit from it. The consultant clarified that the date of the show is fixed and cannot be changed ethically, emphasizing that if the host wants September specials, she must generate orders in that month. It was suggested to improve host coaching by explaining host benefits clearly and encouraging hosts to think about future bookings. Additionally, consultants are advised to highlight the advantages of having shows in earlier months to maximize benefits. The importance of adhering to company guidelines was also emphasized to ensure fair practices and protect all parties involved.

This has happened twice now and I was wondering if any of you have had this happen and what did you do.

On June 31 I had a show. As I was packing up to go home and explained the host bonus, how she can get it at her friends' parties. Well, she didn't get any July bookings and liked the July host special better than the June and wanted to get it instead. I explained that since her guests ordered the June guest special we could not do that.

The next day she emails me and tells me that she called all her friends and they would not mind getting the July guest special instead and that if she had known how great the July HB was she would have waited one day to have her party.

I just had it happen again today! Almost the exact same thing except today I am closing the party and she could not talk any of her friends into a Sept party so wanted to change it to a Sept party. I need the sales for August.

UUgh.

You have to deal with the date of the show, not the guests - we cannot change the date of a live show, it is unethical. So, if she wants the September special, she needs to get September orders. What you might want to do in the future is explain the host benefits during host coaching and let her know that she can get the host bonus for the next 6 months - either she books another show or gets her friends to.You might want to use the Do You Love A Bargain flyer from tastytidbits.net to get your hosts thinking of what specials they want and who could book them.

Adding to this: Point out that she gets even more by having the show in an earlier month - specials from more months! Who doesn't like a great sale?!

If she knows the other host that you allowed to move her date - tell her that you didn't realize it was so against policy and you are trying to run your business in compliance to the company so that your hosts and customers can continue to get the great benefits we currently offer. The reason PC has the guidelines we do is to protect its consultants, hosts, guests and the company.

If she wants the September special so much, she can do a show (cooking or catalog) at the end of September. With all the new products, she should be able to get at least $150 in sales.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a host bonus dilemma in direct sales?

A host bonus dilemma occurs when a host is unsure about how to handle the bonuses or rewards they can earn from hosting a party. This can include confusion over the best way to maximize their benefits or concerns about how their choices may affect their guests or the consultant.

How can I communicate the host bonus options to my hosts?

It's important to clearly explain the different host bonus options available. Provide a detailed overview of the rewards they can earn, such as discounts, free products, or exclusive items. Use visual aids like charts or flyers to make the information more digestible, and encourage hosts to ask questions to clarify any uncertainties.

What should I do if my host is overwhelmed by the bonus options?

If your host feels overwhelmed, take the time to simplify the information. Focus on the most appealing bonuses and help them prioritize what matters most to them. Offer to assist them in creating a plan that aligns with their goals for the party, ensuring they feel supported throughout the process.

Can I offer additional incentives to help my host decide on bonuses?

Yes, offering additional incentives can be a great way to motivate your host. Consider providing a small gift or extra discount for hosts who make decisions quickly or who successfully promote the party. This can help alleviate their dilemma and encourage them to engage more actively with the hosting process.

What if my host chooses a bonus that doesn't seem beneficial?

If a host selects a bonus that may not be the best fit for them, gently guide them through the decision-making process. Discuss their goals and preferences to help them understand the potential impact of their choice. If necessary, suggest alternatives that may better suit their needs, ensuring they feel empowered in their decision.
