Is This Ethical? (Change Catalog to Cooking?)

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the ethical implications of converting a catalog show into a cooking show to provide a hostess with the $15 hospitality bonus. The hostess, facing financial difficulties, has only generated $150 in orders from her friends, who are also struggling. Participants suggest that while it may be tempting to classify the event as a cooking show to access the bonus, it is more ethical to provide the bonus directly from personal funds. This approach avoids potential ethical dilemmas while still supporting the hostess.

I have a girl hosting a catalog show for me out of state. She is very very poor and having a really hard time making ends meet. She was really hoping that hosting a show could help her get a few free things she really needs for her kitchen.

So far her orders are only up to $150. All of her friends are also struggling financially and were unable to put in very big orders.

That said, I REALLY want to be able to give her the $15 of free product you get for having a cooking show.

Would it be ok if I told her to cook a PC recipe for her friends and then I'd count it as a cooking show instead of a catalog show?

Is this unethical?

If a PC recipe is served, it would probably be okay. It's pretty close to the line, though. If it were me, I'd probably just offer the $15 in product out of my own pocket. Putting it on the host order would save you her discount, plus you'd get your commission, so it wouldn't cost you much.

I agree with Rae, if you feel bad for her, give her a gift yourself. HO gives the $15 hospitality bonus for those who have had kitchen shows with us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it ethical to change the Pampered Chef catalog to focus on cooking instead of products?

Yes, it can be considered ethical to shift the focus of the catalog to cooking, as long as the change is transparent and aligns with the values of the company and its representatives. This approach can enhance customer engagement by emphasizing the culinary experience rather than just the products.

How will changing the catalog to cooking impact sales?

Will representatives be trained on the new cooking-focused catalog?

Yes, it is essential for representatives to receive training on the new cooking-focused catalog. This training should cover the new content, cooking techniques, and how to effectively communicate the benefits of the products in relation to cooking, ensuring they can confidently present the changes to customers.

What are the potential drawbacks of changing the catalog focus?

Potential drawbacks may include confusion among customers who are accustomed to the traditional product-focused catalog. Additionally, some representatives may struggle to adapt to the new format if they are not comfortable with cooking or culinary discussions. It is crucial to manage this transition carefully to minimize any negative impact.

How can feedback from customers and representatives be incorporated into the new catalog?
