I Probably Can't Go to Conference This Year.

In summary, the conversation is about a 6 year old who has a rare complication of a fracture and the decision not to have surgery. The third specialist found that the child does not have a fracture, and so the decision was made not to operate.

UPDATE in post #8: I *will* be there!! I probably can't go to Conference this year.My biz is on the fritz (which is an entirely separate issue) but I just found out last week that I probably can't go to conference this year. :(

My 6 yo broke his arm last September and he has developed a very rare complication of the fracture called a fish tail deformity. We have seen several specialist for additional opinions and it is looking like surgery is needed. The surgeon we would use operates on kids just once a month. We won't do it in May b/c it's just too quick. June we'll be at Disney. So the first available date is in July and it happens to be July 13th. Conference is July 12-15th.

I'll miss you guys!

Even though I won't be at conference, maybe I can sneak away for a night and come meet some of my friends for dinner. Depends how DS is doing with all the pain. He will be getting pins put in and will be in a cast for 6 weeks. ugh!

Oh wow. Bless your heart!!! I hope they can fix it without much more pain to the little guy. Prayers and hugs to you and your family.

We'll miss you Deb! I'd love to see you if you can make it in! HUGS!!!!!

I am so sorry you won't be able to make it! I was thinking how nice it would be for you to be able to go home at the end of the day. I am still trying to work out a way to bring my little guy and a sitter for the daytime. Who turns down a free trip to Chicago?
Anyway, I hope your 6yr old does really well and has a quick recovery.

Oh no! I feel so bad for both of you. My brother had to have pins in his arm when he broke it as a child and it wasn't fun.

I will hate it that you can't come, maybe you can come join us for dinner one night....and we will sneak you into a general session if you want :D it's not like they have people checking badges there....think about it ;)

Oh Deb that's such a bummer!! :( I'm so sorry. It's probably better to get this taken care of and good thing it won't interfere with Disney. I'd rather miss conference than Disney. I hope to see you in Disney!!!:D

I'm so sorry for him going through all this and y'all too! It will be wonderful to see you at Disney though. I know this is hard news but SO thankful they can plan a way to correct this.

UpdateWe saw a third specialist last week just to make sure this was the right decision. We prayed for a clear answer.

The doctor said "I would definitely NOT operate on this child." What an answer, huh?

I just completed my conference registration and I'll see you there!

Wow, what a difference in diagnosis! Keep us posted on how he is doing, poor kid. Glad you can make it to conference after all!!

He told us to get him active this summer and use his arm--swimming, baseball, etc. We are going back for an x-ray and check up in August to see if anything has changed.

He said that doing surgery now is a slippery slope and would likely result in additional future surgeries to correct scar tissue and other things as he gets older, so we want to avoid it as much as we can.

Yes, today is my birthday and I was busy partying! We had friends over for cake and ice cream and then I brought some cake and ice cream down to a friend who couldn't make it cuz he just had surgery. Got the boys to bed and now I'm finally sitting down for some "me" time.
