That's what I thought too but isn't that too much pudding mix? The recipe only calls for 2 cups of milk and 1 box of 1 oz pudding mix calls for 2 cups of milk. I am so confused and this is my demo recipe at a show tomorrow.

I practiced the recipe today using only one box of pudding and it seemed to turn out fine. I just want it to turn out really good.

Are your boxes of pudding sugar free?

I don't think there are as much oz. wise in the SF ones.

You need 2 of the small boxes of instant pudding, or one large box of instant pudding

Hi there! I have made the Black Forest Trifle before and it is absolutely delicious! As for the pudding, I would suggest using three of the 1 oz packages instead of two of the 3.3 oz packages. The difference in weight may slightly alter the consistency, but it should still turn out just as tasty. Alternatively, you could also try using one 3.3 oz package and one 1 oz package for a total of 4.3 oz. I hope this helps and happy cooking!

Frequently Asked Questions

What ingredients do I need for a Black Forest Trifle?

To make a Black Forest Trifle, you will need chocolate cake (store-bought or homemade), cherry pie filling, whipped cream, and chocolate shavings. You can also add ingredients like vanilla pudding or mascarpone cheese for extra creaminess.

How do I assemble the Black Forest Trifle?

Start by cutting the chocolate cake into cubes. In a trifle bowl or individual cups, layer the cake cubes, cherry pie filling, and whipped cream. Repeat the layers until you reach the top of the bowl. Finish with a layer of whipped cream and sprinkle chocolate shavings on top for decoration.

Can I make the Black Forest Trifle ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the Black Forest Trifle ahead of time. However, it's best to assemble it no more than a few hours before serving to ensure the cake stays moist and the whipped cream remains fluffy. If made too far in advance, the layers may begin to blend together.

What can I substitute for cherry pie filling?

If you don't have cherry pie filling, you can use fresh or frozen cherries, or even other fruit fillings like raspberry or strawberry. Just make sure to adjust the sweetness according to your taste, as some fruits may be more tart than cherries.

How can I make a healthier version of Black Forest Trifle?

To create a healthier version, consider using whole grain chocolate cake or a low-sugar cake mix. You can also use Greek yogurt or light whipped cream instead of heavy cream for the layers. Additionally, opt for fresh cherries instead of pie filling to reduce added sugars.
