Okay so I am making the Chicken Penne Pasta in the DCB but because my personal microwave is just a hair to small I had to make it in my oven...well it is now an hour later and it is just looking maybe like it could be done. So I have been cooking it at 400 degrees for roughly 55 minutes. anyone else have it take this long? just wanted everyone to know it takes a lot longer!! maybe this will be the big push to get my husband to belive we need a new microwave...dinner could have been done about 30 minutes ago!!!

Is your microwave to small for the DCB to turn or does it just not fit? If it won't turn just go in about half way through and turn it manually. I've seen some pretty small microwaves and the DCB has fit in them all.

We did a show where the micro was too small and we made the pasta in the classic batter bowl instead of the DCB. It fit, and turned out great, we just didn't get to show off the baker.

Oh my Jessica.... I would not wait that long for a "pasta dinner". The micros that the DCB fit in are not expensive in our area. I believe you want to look for a 1.9 CF My DCB does not turn in my micro but everything comes out just as good.

Hi there! I'm so sorry to hear that your Chicken Penne Pasta is taking longer than expected. It's always frustrating when cooking times don't go as planned, especially when you're hungry and ready to eat! I have made this dish in both the DCB and the oven, and I've found that the oven does tend to take a bit longer. However, I usually cook mine at 375 degrees for about 45 minutes and it comes out perfectly. Maybe adjusting the temperature and time will help in the future. And hey, maybe this is the perfect excuse to finally get that new microwave! Happy cooking!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the DCB and how does it work in the oven?

The DCB, or Deep Covered Baker, is a versatile stoneware product from Pampered Chef designed for use in the oven and microwave. It retains heat and moisture, allowing for even cooking and delicious results. When used in the oven, it can handle a variety of dishes, from casseroles to roasts, and typically requires longer cooking times compared to microwave methods.

How does cooking time in the DCB compare to cooking time in the microwave?

Cooking times in the DCB are generally longer than in the microwave. For example, a dish that takes 30 minutes in the microwave may take 45 minutes to an hour in the DCB, depending on the recipe and the type of food being prepared. The DCB’s ability to evenly distribute heat enhances the flavor and texture of the food.

Can I use the DCB for microwave cooking, and how does that affect cooking time?

Yes, the DCB is designed for both microwave and oven use. When cooking in the microwave, the time is significantly reduced. For instance, a dish that takes 45 minutes in the oven might only take 10 to 15 minutes in the microwave. However, the results may differ in texture and flavor, as the microwave does not brown food like the oven does.

Are there specific recipes that work better in the DCB versus the microwave?

Yes, certain recipes are better suited for the DCB in the oven, especially those that benefit from slow cooking, browning, or a crispy texture, such as baked pasta dishes or roasts. Conversely, quick meals like steamed vegetables or microwaveable casseroles can be efficiently prepared in the microwave using the DCB.

What tips should I follow for optimal cooking times in the DCB?

To achieve the best results with the DCB, preheat your oven when necessary, and always follow the recommended cooking times in your recipe. Keep in mind that larger or denser dishes may require additional time. It's also helpful to check for doneness with a food thermometer to ensure your meal is cooked thoroughly.
