Since we are traveling on a holiday weekend, the airfares are just not great deals. I look several times a day so I will not miss a great rate, but I just don't think we will get anything too great this year.

Oh well, just venting a little.

Thanks!
Lisa

What holiday weekend? I'm traveling on the 8th -- the 4th is in the middle of the week and independence day isn't a heavily traveled holiday (unless it's a Mon or Fri).

I got $90 round trip fares from Baltimore to Chicago on Southwest (including all fees it was $202 for DH and myself)

Since the fourth is on a Wednesday, many people extend their vacation time out. Airtran has airfare specials, but they are not good on Sundays and July 7 and July 9 are blackout dates. I know so many people who travel for the fourth.

I know the holiday can make fares a little higher...
I booked my flight (for wave 2) a few weeks ago thru Southwest. I downloaded their Ding! Alert and got my flight from Hartford Ct to Chicago for $29. and my return flight for $109.
The Ding! alert lets you pick multiple airports to fly in and out of...whick is nice. The only "catch" is that you usually only have a couple of hours to book the flight. But, the fares are lower than the published ones.
Just a thought...:)

I ran into this issue too. I'm flying Sunday and it's still considdered part of holiday travel. Last time I only spent $109 on airfare. My hosp mates in wave 2 got $99. airfare Rt to Chicago.

Eddited to add:
My ticket this year cam out to 180$ after fees and taxes.

Wow -- I've never traveled on the 4th and don't know anyone who does and since I got such a great airfare I didn't understand the issue.

Good luck!!

DH works for the airlines so I'm planning to fly stand-by....sure hope I don't have a problem getting there!
