Whose Name Should the Check be Made Out to for a Breast Cancer Fundraiser?

SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the proper procedure for handling donations for a breast cancer fundraiser associated with the Boston 3-Day event. The check should be made out to the specific organization that the fundraiser participant chooses, rather than to an individual. It is clarified that this fundraiser is not an HWC (Home Office) fundraiser, as funds from HWC events are directed to the American Cancer Society (ACS) rather than to the individual walker. Additionally, holding the fundraiser in May allows for the sale of pink items, benefiting both the ACS and the walker's fundraising goals.

A few questions....:blushing:

I have a lady who is walking for breast cancer in the Boston 3 day. She wants to do a fundraiser to help her meet her goal pledge which is $2,200. I found the fundraiser info on CC. Now since she is doing this help fund her walk, who is the check made out to?? It says it the P&P, it isn't written to an individual person, so I need to have her give me the name of the organization she wants the check written to right? Do I put her name down on P3 or the organizations?

Also it is NOT a HWC fundraiser, because that would mean the percentage would be donated to the ACS, not her to her walk correct?

Sorry. This is the first fundraiser for me, and I want to make sure all of my ducks are in a row before I call her back with the info.

If anyone could help me answer these questions I would appreciate it!

Thanks!:sing:

You're on the right track, Elizabeth. You need to get the name of the organization for the check. And you can't submit it as an HWC FR because that money is sent straight from HO to the ACS. BUT, if you hold the FR in May, then people can buy the pink items, which will help the ACS while they count toward the walker's guest totals for her check. It's helping 2 organizations at the same time!

Frequently Asked Questions

Whose Name Should the Check be Made Out to for a Breast Cancer Fundraiser?

The check should typically be made out to the organization that is hosting the fundraiser. This could be a charity, a non-profit organization, or a specific breast cancer research foundation.

Can I make the check out to an individual involved in the fundraiser?

It is generally not advisable to make the check out to an individual. Checks should be made out to the organization to ensure that the funds are properly accounted for and directed to the intended cause.

What if the fundraiser is organized by a Pampered Chef consultant?

If the fundraiser is organized by a Pampered Chef consultant, the check should still be made out to the designated charity or organization, not the consultant personally. The consultant can provide guidance on the correct payee.

Is there a specific format for writing the check?

When writing the check, include the full name of the organization as it is registered. It’s also a good idea to write "Breast Cancer Fundraiser" in the memo line to specify the purpose of the donation.

What if I’m unsure about whom to make the check out to?

If you are unsure, it’s best to contact the organizer of the fundraiser directly for clarification. They can provide the correct name and any additional instructions regarding the donation process.
