I'm telling you, I feel like a magnet for medical drama!
OK, so about 6 months ago I went to the eye dr. because I felt that my perscription for my right eye may have changed. I had just been 6 months before that and everything was fine. So at that time it had changed, but they couldn't get it to exactly 20-20, it was more like 20-25. They did some kind of test nd found that my right eye had a minor problem, but weren't really concerned. They had me go back about a month later to check it again. When I went back it turned out to be an unusal reading due to me blinking. They couldn't get the same reading again. So I go away and all was well.
Well since then my right eye has steadily gotten worse. For at least the last month and 1/2 it has gotten really bad. Even with my contacts in I have really blurry vision in it. I have also been having what I thought was sinus related headaches on the same side and all the way down into my neck. After a couple of weeks of the headaches I went to the regular dr and he started me on antibiotics. He was not sure that was it but we would start there and then if it didn't help we would go on to migraine meds then if that didn't work I would have an MRI done. I finished the antibiotics and they didn't help, but never started the migraine meds.
So after all this time of my eye getting worse I finally make an appt with the eye dr for this morning. When I take my contacts out and he tries to get my vision right with the big "thing" (that they flip powers of the lens and say "is it better here (flip) or here?) he gets to 20-60 and I still can't see anything. So they do the same test that they did 6 months ago and the oddity that was there before is there again and worse this time.
At the thinnest, most sensitive part of the retina it is thinning and he thinks there is fluid behind there. The fluid is most likely a leaking blood vessel. I have to go to see a retinologist this week. (Hopefully Wednesday, but I won't know until Wednesday morning.) I tell my dr that I am kind of nervous and he gave me a little look and said yeah, he was a little nervous too. He said he always tries to stay optomistic, but this is really out of his league and he can't really say what it is going to mean. (I should say that I absolutely love my eye dr. He is super nice and none of this was done to try to freak me out, just to be honest.) Oh, and he also said that my left eye looks the way my right eye did 6 months ago when he physically looks in it, although I have not noticed a change in my sight on that side.
Needless to say, I am really worried. I just hope that the retinologist can get me in on Wednesday so I don't have to wait. If not Wednesay then Friday. I actually talked to him on the phone and he said to try not to worry too much. He said from what the other dr told him it's not an emergency, but they definitely need to see me. He said just think of it as Chapter one of five or six chapters.
Argh!!! So after my weekend fiasco of thinking I might be pregnant, I get a little breather, and now this! At least this one I am able to talk to my family about. It always helps me so much to talk to you guys about this stuff too. If you have read this far, thanks so much, and thanks for being there for me. I will be sure to keep everyone updated as soon as I know more.
