I'm getting ready to launch a fundraiser for a colleague of mine that was just diagnosed with cancer. I want to donate a portion of my commission, but don't think I can afford to give it all. How can I say this without coming across as someone looking to make a buck off of this? I appreciate all suggestions.

What about not really addressing it at all? Maybe talk about raising money for your colleague, but not specifying any particulars? Just that this is a fundraiser to help X due to the diagnosis?

I tell people that I'll donate 10%, making their take either 20% or 25% depending on how hard they work it! They're usually really happy with that! I've never had anyone suggest that I shouldn't make any money - and infact, have had fundraiser chairs who have expressed concern that I was giving too much!

If there is concern, just explain that you have associated costs as well (gas, catalogs, order forms, etc) and while you would love to be able to give all of your commission, you're just not able to right now!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best way to introduce a fundraiser to my audience?

Start by clearly explaining the purpose of the fundraiser and how it will benefit the community or organization. Use a personal touch by sharing your connection to the cause and why it matters to you. Make sure to highlight any specific goals you aim to achieve through the fundraiser.

How can I effectively communicate the details of the fundraiser?

Provide clear and concise information about the fundraiser, including the dates, how to participate, and what products will be available. Use bullet points or numbered lists for easy readability, and consider creating a flyer or social media post that visually represents the details.

What should I say when asking for support from potential customers?

When reaching out for support, express gratitude for their consideration and explain how their purchase will make a difference. You can say something like, "I would love your support in my upcoming fundraiser for [cause]. By purchasing from my Pampered Chef party, you'll be helping us reach our goal of [specific goal]. Thank you for considering!"

How do I handle objections or questions about the fundraiser?

Be prepared to address common concerns by having information ready about the quality of the products, the impact of the fundraiser, and how funds will be used. Listen to their concerns and respond with empathy, providing reassurance and additional details as needed.

What follow-up communication should I send after the fundraiser?

After the fundraiser, send a thank-you message to all participants and supporters, expressing your appreciation for their contributions. Include a summary of the fundraiser's success, how much was raised, and how it will be used. This helps build relationships for future fundraisers and shows the impact of their support.
