Microwave Chocolate Turtles

2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
2 tablespoons shortening
14 ounce pkg caramels
1/2 cup butter or margarine
2 tablespoons milk
1 cup whole pecan halves

Microwave chocolate chips and shortening in a 2-quart bowl for 2 to 3 minutes at MEDIUM HIGH setting (70%).
Pour half of the melted chocolate into a foil-lined 8-inch pan. Chill for 15 minutes.
In a 1-quart bowl, microwave caramels, margarine, and milk for 4 to 5 minutes at MEDIUM HIGH (70%). Stir in pecans. Pour over the chilled chocolate in pan.
Reheat remaining chocolate for 60 seconds at MEDIUM HIGH (70%). Spread chocolate over caramel layer. Refrigerate for about 1 hour, or until firm. Invert pan and peel off foil. Cut candy into 1-inch squares. Store in a tightly covered container in the refrigerator.

Thanks Darby, I knew I could count on someone to share! :O)

I just made soem the other night. This recipe is SUPER EASY! Melt a bag 25 caramels w/ 2 tablespoons evap. milk. Once caramel is melted mix in pecans (or whatever other nuts you like). Drop by tablespoon fulls onto waxed paper. Melt 2 cups chocolate chips w/ 2 tablespoon shortening. Spoon chocolate over caramel nuts. YUMMY and so easy even the kiddos can help.

Easy Turtle Candy RecipeThe easiest turtle candy I've made is using mini pretzels. Lay mini pretzels out on a plate. Place 1 Rolo candy on each pretzel. Microwave about 30-45 seconds to soften (watch them carefully; you don't want to melt them, just softened slightly). Immediately press a pecan half into each Rolo. Tada - turtle candies. :)

Becca, I love that recipe. I haven't tried it in the microwave though. I usually pop them in the oven. But the microwave would be so much easier. I also tried it with Caramel Kisses, I couldn't find Rolo's. That was pretty tasty too.

Mine is similar. For each turtle, place 2 - 3 pecan halves together on a microwave safe plate. Put a caramel square on top of them and microwave for a few seconds (until the caramel melts enough to lose it's shape but isn't runny). Melt chocolate and put a small amount over the caramel.
