I just got the ice cream dipper, after putting it off as an unnecessary addition to my kitchen (my kids felt otherwise). I'm not sure what happened in the cleaning process (DH is my dishwasher), but the surface of it is pitted, like the finish is coming off. Has anyone else seen this effect? I don't feel I should return it if it's a use and care issue.

did you put it in a dishwasher???

Mine has done the same thing .....

They are made of alluminum, and if you let it sit in water, those little white bumps will form. Just scrub them off, and it should be fine.

BTW, when I use mine, I always just wash if off right away in hot water, dry, and put back in my TTA. That way, it still stays pretty and bright and shiney!

I do the same thing...I'm already on scoop #3 thanks to helpful hosts putting them in the dish washer....

Ginger~

I have two dippers, one is from "Pre-PC" days and I put it in the dishwasher, not knowing that I was not supposed to do that. It is an ugly dark grey, but still works. Then, I have the one that came in my PC kit, and it is pretty and shiney because I have taken such good care of it! I couldn't take my old ugly one to shows, no one would buy it!

Frequently Asked Questions

What causes pitting on my ice cream dipper?

Pitting on an ice cream dipper can occur due to a variety of factors, including exposure to extreme temperatures, improper cleaning methods, or the quality of the materials used in the dipper's construction. Over time, repeated use can lead to wear and tear, resulting in small pits or dents on the surface.

How can I prevent pitting on my ice cream dipper?

To prevent pitting, it's important to use the dipper correctly and avoid scraping it against hard surfaces. Additionally, hand washing with a soft sponge and avoiding abrasive cleaners can help maintain the surface integrity of the dipper.

Is pitting on my ice cream dipper a sign of a defect?

Not necessarily. Pitting can be a normal result of wear and tear from regular use. However, if the pitting is excessive or appears shortly after purchase, it may indicate a defect in the material or manufacturing process, and you should consider reaching out to the manufacturer for assistance.

Can I still use my ice cream dipper if it has pitting?

Yes, you can still use your ice cream dipper if it has pitting, but it's important to inspect it for any sharp edges or deep pits that could affect its functionality or safety. If the pitting is minor, it should not impact the performance of the dipper.

What should I do if my ice cream dipper is pitting and I want a replacement?

If you would like a replacement due to pitting, check the warranty or return policy of the product. Many manufacturers, including Pampered Chef, offer satisfaction guarantees, so you can contact their customer service for assistance with obtaining a replacement.
