chefann said:It becomes a vicious circle. Directors get fed up with the whining and griping, so they leave. But without their expertise the whining and griping get worse.
Now, please don't take that the wrong way. We all need to vent a little now and then. But there seems to be a lot of people (and more in the past year than back in the "CS old days") who don't want to be held accountable for their own success or lack thereof. They post a complaint about their business not being as good as they would like, and then get all defensive when someone suggests that they actually WORK their biz instead of just griping about it. That doesn't help anyone.
Just think about the power this place would have if we focused on positive suggestions and celebrating successes. Instead, half of the threads on a given day (this week being off the norm since there is still a lot of conference discussion happening) are full of negativity.
And I'm not saying that we need to stop our joking around completely. That's what the Lounge is for, after all. And it's easy enough for someone to skip the Lounge when they're feeling productive and want to focus on business topics. But it's disheartening when one opens a topic room and half the thread titles include "I can't", "Nobody wants to", or other complaining words.
http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb315/chefann1138/smilies/thsoapbox.gif I'll get off my soapbox now.

Soooo, that means they want to use our expertise....and take...but don't want to give anymore.
And I'm not trying to be snotty - but that is what's being said.
janetupnorth said:Ann - I agree with you 100%. My whole "I'll miss you guys" is that many times I feel like a lot of us become "moms" for the new people to help them along in those issues and stand up to keep CS mainly productive. With many "leaving"...and I know it's not all, it's people "refocusing" after NC or knowing they get "sucked in" and removing their obstacles to soar in their business. But without the depth of all the directors here too this place has the potential to turn so I hope the rest of us can keep it on track. Besides, if I have a success, I like my friends to celebrate and I also like to hear "kudos" from those who have made it further than me.
I have fully encouraged and continue to encourage people to make Directorship and get their butts over there.
I also think it is sometimes good to share disappointments and gripes in the proper manner on here. It's how we learn to handle things. Case in point - look at my customer issue this week with another DS person. She has always been brash and borderline rude and pushy so I handled her the best I could, sent her to the 800# and that has turned around into having her soften, almost totally melt down, and LOOK for service and also express what she is struggling with in life. I wouldn't have expected that out of her. That is a good example of how a little effort can go a long way (granted we do have some definite bless and release people out there though!)
Finally, yes, I enjoy a little joking. That is MY way to release stress. If I am not joking and am serious. Watch out! I'm either very upset at you or very stressed. ...and believe me the grey hairs are multiplying. Yes, CS is an outlet for me. Luckily, I have no one in life judging how much time I spend here and there because they know very well I CHOOSE my activities based on what I need and want in life and what is best for my family. My ED is very supportive of my level and ready for when I want to change and is VERY complimentary of my education and experience (I am thankful for that). My family needs me to have this little corner of the world and have some virtual friends here with similar interests. They need me to be with PC at the level I'm at and when life changes, my direction will too like many on DCS.
My point just is "don't forget us" and please share the depth with us. Even if it's dropping over and leaving information. I have a supportive upline and could PROBABLY get all the technical information on my own but I choose to share and try to get a little back because not everyone has it. I guess it's my way to be the hospitality for others.
...and no I'm not worried about you posting about us...go have your chats "behind" us...I was having fun with that - my dry sense of humor - sorry. I can handle it! I don't have 2 chins or big hips, but I can wear my big girl panties well.
chefmeg said:I think you will notice that many of us have said we will still remain on this board to offer advice, suggestions and to lend a listening ear...we just need to focus on what got us to Director and stay there. I don't think you can't rightly say that anyone is trying to take anyone's "expertise" and not also give their own...that isn't what was being said. And an FYI-Director Chef Success has a "Files" area as well, it just isn't as full as CS because the board has only been open for a year...many of the files are one that now Directors have made.
I challenge ALL of you to come join DCS ASAP! You will then see for yourself why some of us need a place that is focused more on business than what is for dinner.

I have been here almost since the site started and would miss it/you all too much.
I am determined to work my business more so I too am curtailing my time here. I am trying to come on here just once a day but like the idea of before 9/after 9 so I might be changing that pledge to myself.
I can see how some might see the comments about files as a "using us" but I am sure that isn't what any of us are doing. I think it's an excuse to some to stay a member here but we all will still post when we catch a need from someone. The majority of those who are members here (and on DCS) never post and do come just for the files (or to scan the posts from afar) but those, especially directors, who do post now will still help when we are on.
Although I think that many of the files are GREAT, I personally am using very few files anymore. I have moved to just using what PC provides. They are way more professional than anything I can do and they say it all. The only things I have used in the last year are the DYLAB, the next 3 month specials and the going, going gone.
We all need to be working our businesses and many of the directors on DCS are pledging to focus more on our businesses and realize that we need to limit our time over here. Some had their subscriptions expire while at conference and chose to take that as a sign to not renew. They love you still but have decided that they need to go on.

I know - and I really appreciate it! I have learned so much from you - and I love that you not only post ideas - you also post plans for implementing them! I love that you have achieved such great success while still being "one of us". You are someone I am using as a business model for how to build my business and treat my downline and other consultants!legacypc46 said:Still posting flyers, still sharing expertise, still part of the community...just on here a little less. (I just can't afford to spend hours reading thru all the non-business stuff anymore.) I still care.
legacypc46 said:I'm staying, but going back to using CS as it was intended: a community to help each other with their business. I love DCS because there is less 'chat', no drama, and less posting just to say 'me too'....though we do thank each other like crazy.
So...my self-imposed rules to keep my CS time in check:
Read anything new on Paige.
If a new thread is business related, I'll scroll over it.
If a thread will help my business, I'll read it.
If I think what I have to say will help someone's business, I'll post.
Prayer requests will be answered with prayer (not a post saying I'm praying).
If I really have something to say on a non-PC post, I'll PM or email directly.
Kudos, encouragement, and applause is always available to give. :sing:
Occassionally I'll wander to the lounge...primarily to catch a smile and to touch base with my friend and favorite kitchen guy.
I am dedicated to my business and I love CS, but OT-posts take time away from my business, my family, and the other things I love.:chef:
(By the way Ann, great post! You are CS).
Please understand that that post was not started out of anger or exasperation. Several directors were away on vacation and at conference for a few weeks. During that time, their CS subscriptions expired and instead of having a chance to decide whether or not they would continue here and say goodbye if need be, they just decided to let their subscriptions lapse and are therefore totally locked out of CS.So it wasn't written with spite or in a bad frame of mind, rather they are "done" because they are no longer allowed in! That's all. Please don't read it any differently.pampchefrhondab said:Yeah, I noticed the partial post from the Director CS last night. Rawwwww cheering from the CS crowd!!
