Which do you prefer the SS or non stick? I have the older PC non stick set that is still in great condition but I want to get a larger skillet. SS or non stick?? What do you prefer?

It really depends on how you cook. I prefer the Executive for most things. However, if I'm cooking meat or making a sauce I use the SS. If you already have a great non-stick, the SS might be a good idea.

I have both. It depends on what you are using it for. I love the SS for searing and getting the nice crust on meats. It cleans up easily and you can put it in the dishwasher. My non stick I use for thing I do not want to stick to the pan like eggs, pancakes and things I do not want to add extra oil to.

I love the covered 12" SS. I use it for all my family meals.

I love my SS too!

i use my executive and i love it!!!!! i rarely use my ss at all, but keep it just to show if they want to see it

For personal use - I love both - and use them for different things - as others have mentioned. I probably use the SS more at home.

But, as far as using for shows - I use the Exec 12" way more than the SS, if even for Skillet Cakes and now for offering some stovetop Dinners to hosts.

I believe it's a matter of personal preference. I only have the non stick and don't feel like I need anything else.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the main differences between stainless steel and non-stick cookware?

Stainless steel cookware is known for its durability, resistance to scratching, and ability to withstand high temperatures. It is ideal for browning and searing foods. Non-stick cookware, on the other hand, features a coating that prevents food from sticking, making it easier to cook delicate items like eggs and pancakes. However, non-stick pans may not be suitable for high-heat cooking and can wear out over time.

Which type of cookware is better for health?

Stainless steel cookware is generally considered healthier as it does not leach chemicals into food, unlike some non-stick coatings that can degrade at high temperatures. However, modern non-stick cookware is often made without harmful chemicals like PFOA, making it a safer option for everyday cooking when used properly.

Can I use metal utensils on stainless steel and non-stick cookware?

Metal utensils can be safely used on stainless steel cookware without any issues. However, using metal utensils on non-stick cookware can scratch the coating and reduce its effectiveness, so it is recommended to use silicone, wood, or plastic utensils instead.

How do I properly care for stainless steel and non-stick cookware?

For stainless steel cookware, it is best to hand wash with mild detergent and avoid abrasive cleaners. To maintain its shine, you can use a mixture of vinegar and water. Non-stick cookware should be washed gently by hand with a soft sponge and mild detergent, and it is advisable to avoid using the dishwasher to prolong the life of the non-stick coating.

Which type of cookware is more versatile for different cooking methods?

Stainless steel cookware is more versatile as it can handle a variety of cooking methods, including browning, braising, and even baking in the oven. Non-stick cookware is great for low-fat cooking and easy cleanup, but it may not perform as well for high-heat techniques or recipes that require deglazing.
