Gift Certificates?Does anyone give out gift certificates for recognition. If so what kind and for how much?

I give out PC$$ for different promotions I run - usually $5 but for something big up to $25.

I do gift certificates that I make myself for drawings at fairs but haven't for my team. I am thinking of doing Conference Dollars gift certificates but most of my team are hobbiest and aren't interested in going to conference - hopefully that is changing!

I have to go into he Hospital on Monday if I haven't given birth by then and they are going to do the cervical ripening stuff and then on that Wednesday they will induce me. Has anyone had this done for there pregnancy? How quickly should it work and did you also have to also get induced to deliver? I have been measuring at 40 weeks since I was like 37 weeks along. But I am not effaceing and I only have dialated .5 cm since my last appt. a week ago so they decided to take this route so I don't have a ginormaous baby.

everyone has a different opinion about being induced. For me it was great with no problems but I was induced with all 3 kids so I can't compare either.
No worries! have a happy & safe delivery.

I delivered all three of my kids at 37 weeks. So I never had to.

I had Cervidel (SP) with my 11 yo DS. I was 41 w, 6 days and no effacement and 1 cen dilated. They gave it to me around 1 PM. I went into labor at 11 PM and delivered at 2:53 AM. Other then the Cervidel, I had no drugs....not by choice, I asked, they denied!! LOL!!

Tonia, I had to have the cervidial with #1 it really got my contracts going. With #1 I was 11 days late and 0 effaced and 0 dilated good luck with this delivery

Thanks girls, they told me at the doctors office this would happen and of course I get excited and forget to ask questions about it. Then we get home and all sorts of questions come into my head. funny thing is my husband said that he would drop me off at the hosptal while they do this. I freaked out and told him "what you want me to call you when I have the baby".
But we already had a coversation where he thought I said I didn't want him there for there birth, but my exact words your useless after you fall asleep you don't have to stay the night. ( he falls asleep immediatley and it takes like 5 to 10 minutes to wake him up and he talks to me while he is sleeping) so he would be really no help at night time. Thanks again for the info.

With my almost 6 year old son, I had to be induced 11 days early because of pre-eclampsia. I got cervadil and (you'll like this) never even needed pitocin!! That started labor, so maybe my son was pretty much ready to come anyway. They put in the cervadil around 10:30 am and he was born at 11:28 pm. NOt too bad in my book - plus he was my first.:) Wow, does that bring back memories. Good ones!

I am getting excited now! woo hoo

Whatever you do DO NOT let them give you Citatec (spelling?) This is a drug they use for that purpose but it is really for stomach ulsers. They used this on me and I found out a lot of bad stuff that can happen with that. It can harm you and your baby.

Thank you for telling me that I found a website http://www.naturalbirthandbabycare.com/inducing-labor.html and it says that it's a favorite of people to use and has not been approved for it to be used in inducing labor and the manufactuer even warns against using it for that purpose. I would have never known Thank You again!

Thank you Chefkristin!!

Thank you Kristin for giving me this information, we called the hospital today and asked a few question and they told us that is what they use. They wouldn't listen to the fact that it wasn't fda approved for the purpose of inducing labor. So now I am going in tomarrow with several print outs from the fda.gov website! Then I will insist that they don't use it Thanks for saving us from a possible very bad exsperiance!

Not a problem! I am glad you started this post so that I could tell you. By the way I never actually even went into labor. My blood pressure sky rocketed and Ethan's heart rate kept dropping so I had an emergency c-section. My best friend is studying to be a Midwife. She is a certified Labor Doula and I get most of my info from her. Of course I didn't know about Cytatec till after. If I have anymore kids I will be keeping her at the hospital!!

I found out today that is the only stuff they use on base, as the nurse phrased it was they don't use the other stuff because it doesn't work as well. But they ended up not doing any inducing since we see different doctors each time and the military is doing a base wide exercise only one doctor was available and she with out coming into my room or even meeting me said that if I hadn't given birth by next week I would get induced with pitocin. But when I woke up this morning my contractions had started so hopefully they will stay consistent and I will give birth soon, they monitored me for a while and told me not to eat big meals, but to snack. So we went to subway and ate a sandwich, if they are not sure when I am going to give birth I can't just snack for a week. Well anyway thanks again I am glad that I don't need that stuff anyway, It really stressed me out just thinking about it.

Keep us posted Tonia! My water broke with my twins at 33w4d and they ended up having to give me pitocin as I was only dilated to 3cm and did not go any further (I was still only at 3cm when they did the c-section and my water broke at 4am and the twins were born at 130pm)! I ended up having to have a c-section though as my sons heartrate was dropping every time I had a contraction (my daughters was too but not as bad). They tried to put some sort of water solution up the catheter heartrate monitor that was on him but that didn't work either.

So I had my baby boy Benjamin Micheal Oct. 16 @ 1:35pm (tokyo time) I had an epidural and it wore off and I told the guy who does them I could feel the contractions after they started the pitocin because my contractions where not close enough. Well he told me you will only feel pressure. Well my contractions got so bad that I was crying and shaking and he finally gave me just a little bit more. Well it didn't work and the only thing that helped was pushing him out, which took an hour! (my first was only 24 minutes) I will post pictures later when i upload them after my nap.

congrats on your new baby how big as he??

Tonia-

I am so happy to hear that everything went well!!! I can't wait to see pictures of your little man!!!!

:balloon::D:balloon:

He is absolutely Beautiful!!!! Thanks for showing him to us!

what a cutie

Thank you for sharing the picture...he is adorable.

Awwwww, what a cutie!!! Congratulations!:D

Congrats Tonia! He is a beauty!

When I was in labor (way before they decided on the c-section) they asked me about an epidural and I said no at first as I wasn't sure how long it would take and didn't want it to wear off before the twins were born. They gave me pitocin and then stadol (I believe twice) for the pain (got sick from it) and then the epidural before the c-section.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is cervical ripening with prostaglandin gel?

Cervical ripening with prostaglandin gel is a medical procedure used to prepare the cervix for labor. Prostaglandins are hormones that help soften and dilate the cervix, making it easier for labor to begin. The gel is typically applied directly to the cervix in a clinical setting.

How is the prostaglandin gel administered?

The prostaglandin gel is usually administered by a healthcare provider during an office visit or hospital stay. The gel is inserted into the vagina, where it comes into contact with the cervix. The provider will monitor the patient for any reactions or changes in cervical status after administration.

What are the benefits of using prostaglandin gel for cervical ripening?

The primary benefit of using prostaglandin gel is that it can effectively soften and dilate the cervix, which may lead to a more successful induction of labor. It can also reduce the need for more invasive methods of cervical ripening, such as mechanical dilation or surgical interventions.

Are there any risks or side effects associated with prostaglandin gel?

While prostaglandin gel is generally considered safe, there are potential risks and side effects. These may include uterine contractions, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and in rare cases, uterine hyperstimulation. It is important for patients to discuss these risks with their healthcare provider before the procedure.

How long does it take for the prostaglandin gel to work?

The time it takes for prostaglandin gel to work can vary from person to person. Some women may experience changes in cervical ripening within a few hours, while others may take longer. Healthcare providers typically monitor the cervix and contractions to determine the effectiveness of the gel and whether additional doses are needed.
