What Is the Reason Why Our Knives Should Not Go in the Dishwasher?

In summary, Pampered Chef knives should not be put in the dishwasher because it can cause damage to the blades and handles, increase the risk of rusting, decrease their lifespan, and be a safety hazard. The recommended way to clean them is by hand with warm water and mild dish soap, and they should be stored in a knife block or magnetic strip. Some knives may be labeled as dishwasher safe, but hand-washing is still recommended for optimal care.

What is the reason why our knives should not go in the dishwasher?

Re: KnivesI looked at the Product Information Guide on CC, and it said this:
Hand wash knife prior to first use. Wash knife immediately after use; rinse and towel dry immediately. Placing in the dishwasher will deteriorate handles and can compromise sharp edge of blade. Always keep sharp cutting edge turned away from body. Hand wash only.
I don't know how true, but I've also heard that the "clanking around" that utensils can do from the force of the water can dull/ding the blades, as well as some detergents are abrasive on the knife.

Re: KnivesNo professional quality knives should go in the dishwasher. It dulls the blades.Plus, with ours (and probably with others), the dishwasher detergent can affect the color of the handle.

What are the reasons why our knives should not go in the dishwasher?

There are several reasons why Pampered Chef knives should not be put in the dishwasher:

  1. Damage to the blades: The high heat and strong water pressure in the dishwasher can cause the blades to become dull, chip, or even break.
  2. Damage to the handles: The harsh detergent and high heat can also cause the handles to warp or crack over time.
  3. Risk of rusting: Knives are made of metal and can rust if left in a moist environment, such as a dishwasher.
  4. Decreased longevity: Regularly putting knives in the dishwasher can significantly decrease their lifespan, resulting in the need for frequent replacements.
  5. Safety hazards: If knives are not loaded properly or become loose during the dishwasher cycle, they can be a safety hazard for anyone unloading the dishwasher.

What is the recommended way to clean our knives?

The best way to clean Pampered Chef knives is by hand using warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft sponge or cloth. Rinse and dry the knives immediately after washing to prevent rusting. For tougher stains or stuck-on food, a gentle scrub with a nylon brush can be used.

Can I use any type of soap to clean my Pampered Chef knives?

No, it is not recommended to use any harsh or abrasive cleaners on our knives, as they can damage the blades and handles. Stick to mild dish soap and warm water for the best results.

What is the best way to store Pampered Chef knives?

The best way to store our knives is by using a knife block or magnetic strip. This will not only keep them organized and easily accessible but also protect the blades from damage. If using a drawer, make sure to use a knife guard or sheath to prevent the blades from getting damaged or dull.

Are there any exceptions to this rule?

Yes, some Pampered Chef knives are labeled as dishwasher safe, and those can be safely washed in the dishwasher. However, we still recommend hand-washing for the best care and longevity of all our knives.
