What is the reason why our knives should not go in the dishwasher?

I looked at the Product Information Guide on CC, and it said this:

Hand wash knife prior to first use. Wash knife immediately after use; rinse and towel dry immediately. Placing in the dishwasher will deteriorate handles and can compromise sharp edge of blade. Always keep sharp cutting edge turned away from body. Hand wash only.

I don't know how true, but I've also heard that the "clanking around" that utensils can do from the force of the water can dull/ding the blades, as well as some detergents are abrasive on the knife.

No professional quality knives should go in the dishwasher. It dulls the blades.

Plus, with ours (and probably with others), the dishwasher detergent can affect the color of the handle.
