Discussion Overview

The thread centers around participants' inquiries and opinions regarding information about new and discontinued products from the Pampered Chef conference, particularly focusing on the experiences of those in Wave 1. Participants express frustration about the lack of information sharing and the perceived secrecy surrounding product announcements.

Discussion Character

  • Opinion-based
  • Anecdotal
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant, identifying as a consultant, expresses a desire for information on new products and specials for personal use, emphasizing they do not intend to share it with others.
  • Another participant mentions that they were instructed not to share information from the conference, highlighting respect for the wishes of leaders who want to maintain the excitement for those attending.
  • Several users note the frustration with the current culture of secrecy compared to previous years when information was more freely shared.
  • One participant shares their experience from a past conference, stating that they did not feel it would spoil the surprise for others if they shared information with non-attendees.
  • Another participant questions the fairness of customers receiving product information before some consultants, expressing disappointment with the current situation.
  • One participant reflects on the benefits of attending the conference, such as networking and motivation, while acknowledging that not everyone can attend.
  • Several participants express concern about the negative attitudes towards those who could not attend the conference, feeling that it creates a divide within the community.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Views differ significantly among participants regarding the appropriateness of sharing information from the conference. Some support the idea of keeping information private until all waves have been informed, while others feel that sharing should be more open, especially for those unable to attend.

Contextual Notes

The discussion reflects a mix of personal experiences and sentiments regarding the dynamics of information sharing within the consultant community, particularly in light of the recent conference and its impact on business practices.

Who May Find This Useful

Consultants who are unable to attend the conference or are interested in the community's perspectives on information sharing and product announcements may find this discussion relevant.

One interesting note...

Do most of you realize, for the most part of course, that the people who cause trouble and stir things up don't last long here anyway? They eventually get bored and move on...

YUP!!! Kinda funny how that works isn't it?

Oh and for anyone who thinks things here have been nasty lately... This is nothing... This board has been thru wayyyyy rougher times than these. There have been many controversies over the 5 years I have been a member here. Many online communities are MUCH worse. Not every online community is for everyone. It is just the way life is.

My thoughts (for what they are worth...which may not be much):

Some people are helpful, some are not. Some are lazy, others are just a little lost. Sometimes, its hard to know who is what.

If you ask for help and you get a response you feel is snarky, ignore it. You aren't going to change the person who posted it...and you may be mis-interpreting their intent. We've all been in a time jam or simply stressed to high-heaven, so someone will probably empathize and help you out.

To be fair, there is a bucket-load of valuable info in the policies on CC. Saying you don't have time to read them is a cop-out...a good hour is more than enough. After that, a little exploring on CC every day (or even just a few times a week) will pay off in spades. If later you can't remember where you read something, then say that in your request for help...we can all relate to that.

As for NC, this adversarial relationship is unfortunate and hurts all of us. Some folks simply can't go every year (or understandably won't based on family priorities), but others intentionally blow it off and then bitterly complain later about their business failing....and that is what causes a lot of the friction and resentment over sharing information. Those who care enough to put out the time, money, and effort to attend are asked to help out those who don't.

That said, I think not sharing NC announcements with non-attendees is short-sighted. While it justifiably irks to "help" those who blow off NC, the truth is those consultants probably aren't going to do anything productive with the information anyway. So whether you share with them or not doesn't make a whole lot of difference.

What matters are the consultants who ARE interested in maintaining/building their businesses. New product and incentive announcements are a huge motivator. If a non-attendee is leaning forward wanting to grab the info and run with it to plan out a successful new season, more power to her (or him). Yes, we can make them wait, but I just don't see how squashing enthusiasm is a positive thing. Honestly, I've tried to think of a business benefit to making them wait and I don't see it.

That's my opinion (and we all have one). I'm not trying to pass judgement on anyone else; just sharing my thought process. I want everyone who wants to be successful to be so. It's good for them, it's good for their uplines, and its good for this amazing company overall.

It'll be fun to watch this board light up at the end of Wave 3. I love season change-over! (And yes, I  Chef Success)

Well stated Leggy!:chef:

Leggy's post was very well-stated.

Also, I have found this site to be so beneficial to my business. I truly appreciate each and every piece of advice, link to other post, and even all the "see the files". I'm lovin' CS! Ya'll are a great bunch of ladies...oh yeah, and gentlemen.

I agree too Leggy! ;) (Hi by the way - haven't "seen" you in a bit!)

I really enjoy the bounty of info that is on this site and I appreciate the willingness of anyone, newbie or not, sharing. I have seen a lot of uncalled for comments and have felt the burn of it myself. I did attend the first wave and yes, we were asked by Jean and Marla to keep it a secret for the others that were attending. And I do see both sides of this. However, I have agreed to not say anything, so I won't. But I will say this, I have never seen so many Pampered Chef attendees with such bad attitudes than what I had at this year's conference. Rude and very unprofessional behavior toward others. It was uncalled for. And so, I guess that we wonder why it shows up on sites like this?!?!These are some of the same that attended conference.

This too shall pass, and once again we will go on forgetting the bad manners of some and appreciating the graciousness and willingness of the mass majority to share their ideas. And to this group, I thank you for helping me!

A few sayings I use to myself but not in public too often...they help me keep perspective..."The only thing wrong with the gene pool is there isn't a lifeguard."At work:"Change the people or change the people."Basically, humans are humans. Sin is sin. In life we will encounter people that will just have negative attitudes or be self-centered. Who knows the why... Sometimes they have very legitimate trials in their lives, other times, they are just focused on themselves and selfish. Hard to tell who is who without really getting to know them. Sometimes you have to brush it off and take joy that apparently your life is much rosier than theirs and celebrate that you don't have to be so crabby. :)

I heart Leggy's post. And one thing I will say ... as somebody who went to conference, reaped BIG rewards but in the end, could not justify it this year ... and didn't get a stimulus check dropped in my lap to pay the plane fare and registration, and is still catching up from bills blown off to go to said conference ....When I started out, I really relied on this site and thanked people for posting all these great ideas and answering all my stupid questions. And later, when my director quit and I moved under a new person's line, I appreciated it all the more.HOWEVER ... when I went to conference, I gained a new respect for Doris and all she did. I was a PC newbie (had only been to one show when I signed) and barely knew the difference between a scraper and a spatula, let alone who Doris was. So when the FOUNDER OF THE COMPANY stands up there and begs you not to give spoilers, you respect that. And that is why I steadfastly refused to respond to all the PMs and so forth requesting conference info, and was irked when people were bugging me the second I got home from Wave 1!That said, I saw how this board was during the two previous Leaderships (where they used to unveil the spring line) and can assure you that once it is safe to talk, there will be convos a-plenty about every aspect of the new products, Sept. and Oct. specials and the like. Which is good because my cluster meeting is not until Aug. 11!I went ahead and put my name on the "e-mail me" list, not expecting to get a thing until Saturday. I was surprised and a little shocked to get an e-mail today. And while there IS a former host I want to contact about upcoming specials, the whole e-mail and the way it was worded raised more questions than answers, and now, there's nobody I can ask! (And I'm SURE the sender does not want to be bombarded!) So I am going to be a good girl, pretend I didn't see it, and wait until Saturday, when my clustermates come home and it is safe to get into the pool!

Not to beat a dead horse, but I brought up this topic to my director. I asked her what her take on us sharing the news with our customers/hosts/fellow cheffers who couldn't attend. This is what she said:By all means, go ahead and share the news with potential hosts/consultants/any PC contacts of yours. They just ask us not to put the news out there on the loops for everyone to read and spoil it. They expect us to get a jump on things as soon as we come back.To prove that they expect us to get a jump on the PC incentives from conference... look on the bottom of the recruiting flyer for the conference attendee bonus, conf #1 deadline is before #2 deadline and so on. If they expect us to keep quiet until the end of conf#3, we're cutting a week of our time allotment.

okay, that being said...who wants to pm me and tell me the new products? :) [email protected]

I'd love to hear what's up and upcoming specials, as I've got an event in the morning and would like to be able to share info.........[email protected]

Lisa

I've got a show tomorrow and would love to know the fall specials as well, so I can book some fall shows! Everyone has been so hesitant this summer to put something on my calendar for the fall without knowing the specials. I so wish I could have gone to conference, but I'm still paying for the last 2 conferences I attended and couldn't afford another one. Plus I have a cute 6 month old that I can't leave. My email is [email protected]

I will be so grateful for anyone's help!

I'd love to know anything as well! I just signed on and couldn't scounge up enough cash to get to NC so: [email protected]

Please let me in on the new stuff. [email protected] Had a great time last year but new grand daughter was born last weeek and I thought that is were I was needed. Will see everyone next year.

I will be out of computer commission Sat. Would love an email prior if possible. [email protected]

I would love to get on a list for conference info! Not many on my team could go this year :( [email protected]
