I had 30 minutes to decorate this cake before my daughter arrived to her surprise birthday party. First cake I ever decorated and I made it in the Classic Batter Bowl. It came out pretty cute for the short time I had to make it. Plus of course I had to add a pic of my daughter Cassidy since she was the birthday girl!

Cute!!! Brandi, what part of Maine are you from? I'm a Director from the Bangor area in Colleen Blanchette's downline. I'm wondering if I've met you at the many trainings we put on. Happy to see another Mainer here :)

Thank you everyone! We had a blast! Cassidy thought she wasn't going to have a party, when she pulled in with my parents and all her friends were hear she was sooo excited! Plus of course I was excited because I made a bunch of PC recipes and the conversation was endless every time someone saw me use a new tool! lol! I got two people to join me in my mystery host catty show that I am doing while away at conference!

I'm from the Portland area. Originally from androscoggin county though! That's a little closer to you! I haven't been to any training outside of my cluster so I don't think we have met. Are you going to conference? I am in wave 3.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ingredients do I need for the Surprise Birthday Cake?

To make the Surprise Birthday Cake, you will need basic cake ingredients such as flour, sugar, eggs, butter, baking powder, and vanilla extract. Additionally, you can include your choice of surprise filling, like chocolate chips, fruit, or candy, to make it extra special.

How do I prepare the Batter Bowl for baking?

Before adding your cake batter, make sure to grease the inside of the Batter Bowl with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking. You can also lightly dust it with flour for added assurance. This step is crucial for easy removal of the cake once it's baked.

Can I customize the flavor of the Surprise Birthday Cake?

Absolutely! You can customize the flavor by using different extracts, such as almond or lemon, or by adding cocoa powder for a chocolate version. You can also experiment with different fillings to create a unique cake that suits your taste preferences.

How long does it take to bake the Surprise Birthday Cake?

The Surprise Birthday Cake typically takes about 25-30 minutes to bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C). It's important to check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; if it comes out clean, the cake is ready!

What should I do if my cake doesn't rise properly?

If your cake doesn't rise, it could be due to expired baking powder or not mixing the ingredients thoroughly. Ensure that all your ingredients are fresh and properly measured. Also, avoid overmixing the batter, as this can lead to a dense cake. If you encounter issues, consider adjusting your technique for next time.
