Poll: Guest Introductions and and Name Tags.

I'm considering using name tags but am nervous. What do you do? How do you have the guests introduce themselves or do you that use name tags skip this step altogether?

Things I've seen/heard in the past is how do you know the host, describe yourself in the kitchen.

I don't use name tags. (I wouldn't be able to read them during the show.) If the crowd is over 13 people I don't do introductions. If the crowd is fewer than 13 people I have everyone tell me their name, how they know the host, and describe the host in one word. I have two rules--they must be nice, and they must be clean. I also let them know that if they HAVE to use more than one word we'll pretend they're hyphenated. And, duplicates are allowed. This breaks the ice and calms the fear that I'm going to put everyone on the spot about PC products.

If you're not comfortable with name tags, there are other ways to help guests get to know each other. Some ideas include:1. Introductions: As the host, you could introduce yourself to each guest and have them introduce themselves to you. This way, you can remember their names and use them throughout the evening.2. Seating arrangements: If you're having a sit-down dinner, you can strategically seat guests next to people they may not know. This will encourage conversation and help guests get to know each other without the need for name tags.3. Icebreaker games: There are many fun and easy icebreaker games that can help guests get to know each other. You can find some ideas online or create your own. This will not only help with introductions, but it will also break the ice and make everyone feel more comfortable.4. Personalized place cards: Instead of traditional name tags, you can create personalized place cards for each guest. This can include their name and a fun fact or question about themselves. This will not only help guests remember each other's names, but it will also give them something to talk about.5. Name tents: Another option is to use name tents on the dinner table. These can be small cards with each guest's name on them that can be placed in front of their seat. This way, guests can easily see each other's names without the need for traditional name tags.Ultimately, it's up to you as the host to decide what will work best for your gathering. If you're not comfortable with name tags, there are plenty of other ways to help guests get to know each other. Just remember to be welcoming and make introductions throughout the evening to ensure everyone feels included and comfortable.
