My Large Round Stone Just Broke in 4 After 7 Years

i was woundering should i get a new one so that way i have 2 I do have one with the handles in the large but what now to do with the large rack? What does every one think?

It depends. Did you use that particular size a lot? For me, a second bar pan would be more useful. That being said... at Christmas time, when I make a lot of cookies, EVERY flat stone or bar pan I have gets used. So, during that time of year, I wouldn't trade the lg. round stone. I'm always so good at making a decision on these things! You could do x, but y would work too. ;) very decisive!

I would get another one if you like using it. I don't have one with the handles so I don't know which I prefer. Sometimes it is nice having more than 1 to speed up the cooking time without waiting for the other to cool. I am sure you can use the rack inverted to put the handle one on to put on the table if you decide not to replace the old stone.

you should see this stone it is blaker than black i used it all the time and left it in the oven.

I think you just answered your question! Go for it and here's to at least another 7 years of the stone!!

You can use the rack as a stand...turn it upside down on the table and put your stone on top of it.

I agree I think you have already answered your question. You use it all the time.

Don't throw out at least one of the pieces though!
My hospitality director uses a broken stone at her shows to show that the stuff on the outside does NOT absorb into the inside. The inside is perfectly colored like a new stone, but the outside was BLACK!! So you can use that in your shows! Just get a managable piece so you don't hurt yourself. :) But she would say that what is on the outside is not absorbed by the stones, so you don't have to worry about the raw meat, etc or grease absorbing into your stones. I loved that idea!

Tribute to a Stone
________________________________________
A heart BREAKING storyOn January 3, 2006, a dearly loved piece of the Garrison Kitchen met its final destiny. Only recently removed from the oven, the 7 ½ year-old Rectangle Stone, was resting precariously atop the stove. The stone, the first in the collection owned by Lori Garrison of San Antonio, Texas, served well, and had just produced a recipe of gluten free breadsticks less than an hour before the fateful event. It seems that Mrs. Garrison, in a hurry to turn on the burner to boil water, inadvertently turned the wrong knob. Within moments a loud crack was heard and the beloved stone was cracked. Mrs. Garrison remembers attending her first Pampered Chef show in Uvalde, Texas, and wanting this stone. She hosted a party and chose this rectangle stone as a half-price host item. Unfortunately, the original stone arrived broken, and had to be returned. When the new stone arrived it was put to use immediately. Sadly, the stone competed with two Air-Bake pans for nearly three years before Mrs. Garrison realized that her only true baking companion was a stone. This stone traveled from Uvalde to San Antonio when the family moved, and had made appearances at countless Pampered Chef shows performing for customers across the city of San Antonio and beyond. The depth of color was once noted as being “The darkest stone I’ve ever seen” by the husband of a fellow Pampered Chef consultant. The depth of color on this well seasoned stone rivals that of the first stone owned by Doris Christopher, founder of The Pampered Chef, which now is on display at the Pampered Chef’s home office, in one piece. The Rectangle stone lost a fellow Classic Collection member in 2004 when a 3 year 2 month old stone was put to rest after a similar accident. Survivors include: The Bar Pan, Loaf Pan, Large Round Stone, and others both in the Classics and New Traditions families of stoneware. Mrs. Garrison has not determined if the stone will be buried (in the trash can) or donated for use in culinary research. She was also noted as stating, “Some see pictures of people in tortillas. When my stone broke, it left an outline that resembles the Alamo with adjoining walls. This was a true tribute to its service in San Antonio.” May the Rectangle stone Rest In Pieces.
