I can get in but I have to Login again. I talked with Greg and he said we should be able to get in without logging in again. So I'm just checking.

I didn't have to log in

Once you're in there you just type- its like the shout box in CS except it doesn't show up on the main page. Or like AOL instant messanger. You'd want to have at least another person in there so you can converse.

Sorry I missed you Kate. I was on for a couple of minutes and had a chat with Greg. It's really nice! ...oh and he said they have other things they are working on adding to this forum - he didn't tell me what but I'm sure it'll be great (we are so special!:p).

I tried it last night but was in there alone. Can we have a shout box like on CS instead?

We need to drag some more directors over here (kicking and screaming)...I love the shout box on CS....I really really (or, as my kids would say weawwy weawwy) would love that over here!!!!

I don't like the shout box because I am never on the main page...however, with chat, it is just another tab...I know, weird...but that's whatcha luv about me!:candyheart:

I don't care for the shout box either. I go right to new posts and usually don't even see what's going on there. I vote for the chat.

...but we could do both??

Music! This is a big stress reliever for me and others mentioned they play instruments - what instruments do others own and/or play?

Piano - own 1 regular, 1 full-size electronic - started playing at age 3 - only play a little now...average at this.
Organ - own 1 regular, 1 antique (over 115 years old) - started at age 8 - not too bad
Flute - own 1 - self-taught - still learning
Clarinet - own 1 - started playing at age 10 - not too bad at it
Trumpet - own 1 - started playing at age 14 when my brother was learning it - not too bad at it
Accordian - own 1 antique one - was my grandma's - self-taught - play at home for fun
Guitar - own 1 - can play notes and some cords - still self-teaching
Violin - own 1 kids size and a few antiques not fit to play - would like to learn someday
French Horn - own 1 double horn - starting playing at age 11 - my best instrument - have played professionally in a band
Mellophone - own 1 antique one - it is a marching French Horn - played since 11 and did march for a few years (this instrument I bought in 2006 though)
Electric Bass - Hubby owns and plays - would like to learn

...and I have a tambourine...

Do you have a music room, or something?

No, most are in the living room and the rest downstairs.

I have a 2 bedroom house with 2 adults, 2 kids, 2 dogs, a cat, all these instruments and PC stuff...luckily we still fit!

I sing in the car with the kids but not too much in public!

Man...I have walkways because of all the kitchen stuff...I can't imagine adding 2 kids and 2 dogs (have the 2 cats) AND the instruments!!!

Janet that is fabulous!! My kids all want to play an instrument. My youngest DS wants a guitar (he will be getting one for Christmas), my oldest DD wants to play the drums (not sure if I am ready for that) and m,y youngest DD wants to play piano.

As for me......none yet but there is still plenty of time!

I do play the piano and can conduct orchestra, band and choir. I am three classes away from my music certification (and have been for 5 years) but I don't feel that those three classes would be enough. I don't even know how to take apart and fix the instruments or tune them, so how could I teach it?

Lets see. I have an upright grand piano, an organ- a real one- not a pipe organ but the sort that the old ladies play at church. I have 2 guitars, one steel string folk style, and 1 gut string classical guitar. I have 3 trumpets. 2 strad. bach, and 1 conn liberty convertible. I have a clarinet- a yamaha student model. I have a baritone- its ancient- not sure the make. I have a few other instruments on my 'wanna' list- I wanna flute, I wanna t-bone, I wanna violin, you get the idea.

See! I'm not the only one! You have 2 Bach trumpets???? Silver? I'd love to have one...I helped my brother buy his when he was in HS and I was in college. Now almost 2 decades later he makes the money, I'm practically broke (DH works as a missionary at a camp) and I can only dream... :)

I also would love to have an oboe someday too.

I got a decent brand new flute about 5-6 years ago. An intern at camp's dad worked at a music store and got me one for $100.00. It is nice to learn on!

Do you ever play your organ? Full pedals or partial?

DD (age 6) wants to learn violin but lessons are so expensive here for that and I can't teach her that one so I convinced her to start with piano. She is doing pretty well after about 4 months. I said if she learns to read music well and sticks with that I'll consider violin lessons (better sell more PC to pay for it!!!!)

DS (age 4 - in December) wants to learn violin too but we'll see...I want them to be able to pick and enjoy but also stick with it...fine line there - don't want to push but need to establish the practice discipline so I want them to be interested in what I want them to practice.

I pulled out the F. Horn and mellophone and took them to Sammie's school for Show 'n Tell and she did great making sounds in the mellophone - she may be a future trumpet player!

You can play the radio (as my dad used to say)...it is never too young to start...just for yourself and just for fun...I RARELY play in public but I can sit and play for myself (or my kids, they are a kind audience).

On the drums, my uncle built a soundproof room in the basement for my cousin so they didn't have to hear it - LOL! He become the best drummer in Racine for a time and taught students for quite few years. I think you can also get electronic practice drum pads and headphones - thta would save mom!
