I was washing my grill press today and noticed rust spots on it. I didn't think this was suppose to happen. I only hand wash any pieces of my cookware and dry them once I am done. Any ideas on how to stop this and reverse it???

Or do I just need to call HO for a replacement because it is only about 6 monthes old...

I would call and have it replaced. It shouldn't rust.

mine kinda did the same thing too, but I just washed it well and use it anyway. It was only on the top. HO will replace it, but you have to send it back... and that thing weighs a ton.

Mine is rusty too. You have to REALLY make sure you dry it.

Since it's enamel coated cast iron, couldn't you dry it in the oven like you do cast iron skillets? I don't have my grill press yet so can't look at it. I wonder if a light coating of cooking oil would hurt it? Just rub it down and wipe it off, like seasoning a skillet. Just a thought.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my grill press rusting?

If you notice any discoloration, flaking, or a reddish-brown color on your grill press, it may be rusting. It's important to inspect it regularly, especially if it has been exposed to moisture or not properly dried after use.

What causes rust on my grill press?

Rust typically forms when metal is exposed to moisture and oxygen over time. If your grill press is not dried thoroughly after washing or if it is stored in a humid environment, it can lead to rust development.

How can I prevent my grill press from rusting?

To prevent rust, always dry your grill press immediately after washing it. Store it in a dry place, and consider applying a light coat of cooking oil to the surface to create a protective barrier against moisture.

Can I fix rust on my grill press?

Yes, you can fix rust on your grill press. Use a fine steel wool or a rust eraser to gently scrub the rusted areas. After removing the rust, wash the press, dry it thoroughly, and apply a light coat of cooking oil to protect it.

When should I replace my grill press?

If the rust is extensive and cannot be removed, or if the integrity of the grill press is compromised (such as deep pitting or cracks), it may be time to replace it. Regular maintenance can help prolong its life.
