It really can be done in both. If you're already using the oven for a recipe at a show, it's easy to stick this in the microwave. I've only used it by baking it in the oven and that's quite tasty, although the microwave is good too. It just may not get as crispy on top. But if you're serving it with ice cream it really wouldn't matter since that will make it soggy anyway. It's SO good! Matter of fact, the last show I made it at reminded me how awesome it is so I came home from that daytime show and made for dessert for my family!:)

Mine is alwasy crispy in the microwave. That's what amazed me at first. Hmm... Maybe I should try to bake it once just to see...

Frequently Asked Questions

What ingredients do I need to make Mom's Apple Crisp for Kids?

To make Mom's Apple Crisp for Kids, you'll need the following ingredients: 4 cups of peeled and sliced apples, 1 cup of granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1 cup of rolled oats, 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, and 1/2 cup of melted butter.

How do I prepare the apples for the crisp?

Start by peeling and slicing the apples into thin pieces. You can use a variety of apples, such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, for a balanced flavor. Once sliced, toss the apples with granulated sugar and cinnamon in a large bowl to coat them evenly.

What is the best way to layer the ingredients in the baking dish?

In a greased baking dish, first layer the sweetened apple mixture evenly across the bottom. Then, in a separate bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, and melted butter to create the topping. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the apples to create a nice, crunchy layer on top.

How long should I bake the apple crisp, and at what temperature?

Bake the apple crisp in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly. Keep an eye on it to prevent over-browning.

Can I make Mom's Apple Crisp ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the apple crisp ahead of time! You can assemble it and store it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours before baking. Just be sure to cover it tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil. When you're ready to bake, you may need to add a few extra minutes to the baking time if it's cold from the fridge.
