I have a potential host who would like to have a show, but wants all the benefits to go to her son, which is fine. It was mentioned if we could do a housewarming party for him to get him set up. He is attending school or getting a job (I don't remember details) far away and is threatening to take most of her kitchen things;) I don't have a problem with doing this, as long as it isn't tacky..it could be a going away party type of thing. I have checked flyers and such and can't find anything remotely close to what I need..anyone have one or ideas of how to do it?

I would probably just do it like a Bridal Show.. Only not so 'girly'... I don't think I'd do anything special.. Maybe do a recipe that is 'quick & easy' for him..

Hi there! It sounds like a great idea to throw a housewarming/going away party for the host's son. I don't think it's tacky at all, especially if it's done in a tasteful and thoughtful way. As for finding ideas, have you tried searching online for "housewarming party ideas" or "going away party ideas"? There are plenty of resources and inspiration out there. You could also consider reaching out to friends or family who may have thrown similar parties in the past and ask for their suggestions. Good luck with the planning!

Frequently Asked Questions

What are some creative themes for a going away party for my son?

Consider themes that reflect your son's interests or future plans. For example, if he loves sports, you could have a sports-themed party with decorations and games related to his favorite team. Alternatively, a travel theme could celebrate his upcoming adventures, featuring maps, globes, and travel-related activities.

How can I make the party memorable for my son and his friends?

Incorporate personalized touches such as a memory wall where guests can write messages or share memories with your son. You could also create a video montage of his favorite moments, or organize fun activities that he enjoys, ensuring that the party feels special and unique to him.

What food and drinks should I serve at the party?

Choose a menu that includes your son's favorite foods. Finger foods like sliders, pizza, and a variety of snacks are great for mingling. For drinks, consider a mix of sodas, juices, and perhaps a signature mocktail that reflects the theme of the party. Don't forget a cake or dessert that ties into the theme!

How can I involve guests in the party planning process?

Engage guests by sending out a group message or creating a shared online document where they can suggest ideas for activities, food, or decorations. You could also assign specific tasks to close friends or family members, making them feel more involved and invested in the celebration.

What activities can I plan to keep the guests entertained?

Organize games that encourage interaction, such as a trivia quiz about your son, a scavenger hunt, or a photo booth with props. You could also set up a DIY craft station where guests can create something meaningful to take home, or have a slideshow of your son's life that everyone can enjoy together.
