for those of you who do "interactive" shows, do you have your guests wash their hands or do you have gloves?

I have the hostess give them a choice to either wash their hands using my sudspump filled with our soap (then rinse) or put on put on a pair of gloves. Most choose to wash their hands.

Wash hands. No one ever wants to use gloves. I do let them know that I have them, but I have only ever used them for handling jalapeno peppers.

Having been a nurse in my past life I say wash hands even if using gloves.

I have them wash hands. I personally hate to use gloves because I can't feel the food and things right. It's a sensory thing for me. If I "had" to, I would. But I just make sure everyone washes their hands, myself included, right there where everyone else can see. That way everyone feels comfortable knowing everyone else did it.

what she said. :)

After my last experience with jalepeno's, I will never do peppers/onions without gloves again! But, I prefer my guests just wash their hands and I also have hand sanitizer.

Wash hands for me too. :)

I keep my hand sanitizer in my tool turn about so that it is always right there ready to use. I will use it myself about 5 times during the demo.

My family toured a cheese factory once, a few years ago. The workers put their hands into the vat for part of the process. They did not wear gloves. They told those of us on the tour that there was less bacteria on washed hands than there was on gloves.

Wash hands. I have tiny hands and can't find gloves that fit me .
Never had a complaint. :)

I give them a choice. Some wash hands, and some use gloves.

I wash my hands, and use gloves when I am working with meat of any kind.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of hand washing during interactive shows?

Hand washing during interactive shows promotes hygiene and safety, ensuring that all participants are using clean hands when handling food. It also sets a good example for guests, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness in food preparation. Additionally, hand washing allows for a more tactile experience, enabling participants to engage more fully with the cooking process.

When should gloves be used in interactive shows?

Gloves should be used when handling ready-to-eat foods, such as salads or desserts, to prevent cross-contamination. They are also recommended when participants have cuts or open wounds on their hands. Using gloves can help maintain a higher standard of hygiene, especially in larger groups where the risk of spreading germs is increased.

Can I use both hand washing and gloves during the same show?

Yes, using both hand washing and gloves can be an effective practice. Participants should wash their hands before putting on gloves, and gloves should be changed regularly, especially after handling raw ingredients. This combination ensures maximum hygiene and safety during the interactive cooking experience.

What are the best practices for using gloves in interactive shows?

Best practices for using gloves include ensuring that they are the right size and fit for comfort, changing them frequently, especially after handling different food items, and avoiding touching surfaces or personal items while wearing gloves. It’s also important to wash hands before putting on gloves and to dispose of them properly after use to maintain cleanliness.

How can I educate my guests about hand washing and glove use during the show?

You can educate your guests by starting the show with a brief explanation of the importance of hand hygiene and proper glove use. Demonstrate the correct hand washing technique and explain when and why gloves should be used. Engaging your guests in a discussion about food safety can also help reinforce these practices throughout the interactive experience.
