Hi everyone,

I have a friend who purchased a DCB. She does not like microwave cooking (she is admittedly paranoid for no reason!) and asked if I could help her figure out how to make some of the awesome microwave recipes in the oven. Does anyone know how to do this or have the information? I will also ask her which recipes she is interested in and post them tomorrow..

Thanks!

In the new DCB Cookbook there is a helpful chart in the back. Check it out maybe that will help.

I did a couple shows in Jan. making the LBPC where my host didn't have a microwave big enough. I did the potatoes in the oven, 375, for 25 minutes, then switched them, back in oven for 20minutes. Added the milk/cream cheese for 15 minutes. It worked fabulously, in fact it made the potatoes more "baked" with a bit more crunch to the skins. All the other directions are the same as microwaved.

Anyone else have any conversion tips? The chart is helpful for sure, just looking for more guidance if anyone has it :)

I guess it really depends on what she makes. Some of the soups and stuff can be started on the stove top and baked in the oven - sort of like a crockpot. Other stuff she'll probably just have to play around with.I made the Family Burrito Bake last night and used the stove top/oven directions. It was still fast and simple just took longer to make. I've also done the Mexican Chicken Lasagna in the oven. Assembled as directed and put in the oven until done.

How long did you bake the chicken lasagna? I have been eyeing that recipe up.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a DCB and how is it used in the microwave?

A DCB, or Deep Covered Baker, is a versatile stoneware piece from Pampered Chef designed for cooking in the microwave. It allows for steaming, baking, and roasting, making it ideal for quick and healthy meals. The DCB retains heat and moisture, ensuring even cooking and flavorful results.

Can I use the DCB in the oven instead of the microwave?

Yes, the DCB can be used in the oven. It is designed to withstand high temperatures, making it suitable for baking and roasting. When converting microwave recipes for oven use, adjustments in cooking time and temperature may be necessary.

How do I convert microwave cooking times for oven use with the DCB?

To convert microwave cooking times for the oven, generally, you can multiply the microwave time by 4 to 5 times. For example, if a recipe calls for 10 minutes in the microwave, you might start with 40 to 50 minutes in the oven, but always check for doneness as oven temperatures can vary.

What temperature should I set my oven to when using the DCB?

When using the DCB in the oven, a common temperature setting is 350°F (175°C). However, depending on the recipe, you may need to adjust this temperature. Always refer to the specific recipe for guidance on the best temperature for optimal results.

Are there any specific recipes that work well when converting from microwave to oven with the DCB?

Many recipes can be adapted for oven use, especially those that involve baking, casseroles, or roasted dishes. Popular options include lasagna, baked chicken, and vegetable casseroles. It's best to start with recipes that are already designed for baking to ensure successful results.
