A repeat customer (and friend) of mine told me at my last show that she couldn't get the cheese plane to work properly. I don't have this item, nor have I ever used one (PC or otherwise). I was wondering if you guys could give me some hints and tips to pass along to her. Is there a "trick" to getting it to work right?
Thanks in advance!

What...Eric,

What kind of cheese is she using? I find that it is hard to use on really soft, warm cheeses..it just kinda mushes it. I have used it on cheddar and it truely depends on what brand I buy! I use it often when I set out cheese and wine to entertain with. Everyone seems to love it, as long as I don't have the "mushy" cheese! :D

Hi there! I have used a cheese plane before, so I can definitely offer some tips for your friend. Firstly, make sure the cheese is at room temperature before using the plane. This will make it easier to slice and prevent the cheese from crumbling. Secondly, hold the cheese plane at a slight angle and apply gentle pressure as you slide it across the cheese. If you press too hard, the cheese may become stuck and difficult to slice. Also, make sure to clean the cheese plane after each use to prevent build-up and ensure smooth slicing. I hope these tips help your friend and make her cheese slicing experience a success!

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do if my cheese plane is not slicing properly?

If your cheese plane is not slicing properly, first ensure that the blade is clean and free of any cheese residue. If it’s still not slicing well, try using a firmer cheese, as softer cheeses can sometimes stick to the blade. Additionally, make sure you are applying even pressure while slicing.

How can I prevent cheese from sticking to the cheese plane?

To prevent cheese from sticking, you can lightly coat the blade with a small amount of cooking oil or spray before use. This creates a non-stick surface. Also, try to slice cheese that is slightly chilled, as warmer cheese tends to be stickier.

What should I do if the cheese plane blade is dull?

If you find that the blade of your cheese plane is dull, it may be time to replace it. Unfortunately, the blades on most cheese planes are not designed to be sharpened. Check with your Pampered Chef consultant or the company for replacement options.

Is it safe to put my cheese plane in the dishwasher?

While some cheese planes may be labeled as dishwasher safe, it’s generally recommended to hand wash them to prolong their lifespan. The heat and harsh detergents in a dishwasher can dull the blade and damage the handle over time.

How can I clean my cheese plane effectively?

To clean your cheese plane effectively, rinse it under warm water immediately after use to remove any cheese residue. Use a soft sponge and mild dish soap to gently scrub the blade and handle. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scrubbers that could scratch the surface.
