I thought that I heard somewhere that you can make angel food cake in the large bar pan...has anyone tried this? I would love some tips. I think someone said to line it with parchment paper but I wanted to check before I did it. Any tips would be super!!

Thanks!!

I've done it before. It was part of a recipe. I think the recipe is in the All the Best cookbook. It is a jellyroll cake No real tips. I line it with parchment because the cake is so light there isn't much fat to help release the cake from the pan. Also because the recipe I used called for it (so we could then roll it up without it sticking on itself). I hope it turns out for you!

I use the 12 in Exc. Skillet. It turns out perfect every time.

Thanks! I have the All the Best cookbook. I'll look in there. I knew I saw it somewhere just couldn't remember!!

How long do you cook it in the 12" skillet? I have to try that!!

I love angel food cake! I'll have to try it in the large bar pan!

I've used my bar pan to make angel food cake many times, but only for rolling it up for jelly roll type cake. I always use parchment paper for roll up recipes in the bar pan.

how long at what temp do you use?

Frequently Asked Questions

Can angel food cake be made in a bar pan?

Yes, you can make angel food cake in a bar pan. However, it's important to note that traditional angel food cake is typically baked in a tube pan to allow for proper rising and cooling. Using a bar pan may yield a denser texture, but it can still be delicious.

What adjustments do I need to make for baking angel food cake in a bar pan?

When using a bar pan, you may need to adjust the baking time. Since the batter will be spread out more, it may bake faster than in a tube pan. Start checking for doneness around 25-30 minutes, and use a toothpick to test if it comes out clean.

Do I need to grease the bar pan before pouring in the batter?

No, you should not grease the bar pan when making angel food cake. The batter relies on the ability to cling to the sides of the pan for proper rising. Greasing the pan can prevent this and result in a cake that does not rise properly.

How do I ensure my angel food cake comes out of the bar pan easily?

To help your angel food cake release from the bar pan, allow it to cool completely in the pan before attempting to remove it. You can also gently run a knife around the edges to loosen the cake before inverting it onto a cooling rack.

Can I add flavors or mix-ins to my angel food cake batter when using a bar pan?

Yes, you can add flavors or mix-ins to your angel food cake batter, such as vanilla extract, almond extract, or even citrus zest. Just be cautious not to add too many heavy ingredients, as they can weigh down the batter and affect the cake's rise.
