Can All Grill Pans Be Used on Glass Top Stoves?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

Grill pans can be used on glass top stoves if they have a flat bottom, as uneven surfaces can cause heating issues. According to guidelines for glass-ceramic cooking surfaces, pans should not extend more than 1-inch beyond the cooking area. Using oversized or uneven pans can trigger the built-in temperature limiter, resulting in slower cooking. For accurate information, contacting the manufacturer, such as OUR-CHEF, is recommended.

Does anyone know why our grill pan can be used on glass top stoves and so many others can't?

Maybe because ours are flat on the bottom, and others may not be? I found this by doing a google search for glass top cooking surfaces:

"When selecting pots and pans to use on a glass-ceramic surface check the pan for bottom flatness. Pans should not extend more than 1-inch beyond the cooking area on a glass-ceramic cooking surface. On glass-ceramic surfaces a built-in temperature limiter will sense uneven heating when an oversized pan is used and lower the heat resulting in slow cooking."

I'm not 100% sure on this, but it could be the reason. A call to HO might be a good idea if you're getting the question a lot and want the right answer! HTH!

Ours is the flattest I've seen. Before I found PC I had bought three or four I'd had to take back cause I got them home and read the instructions and couldn't use them on my stove. I was sharing this story at a party and a customer asked about it. She was at another party Friday and I realized I still didn't have the answer.

Do I call the OUR-CHEF # for a question like that?

Frequently Asked Questions

Can all grill pans be used on glass top stoves?

No, not all grill pans are suitable for use on glass top stoves. It's important to check the manufacturer's guidelines to ensure compatibility, as some materials can scratch or damage the surface.

What materials should I look for in a grill pan for a glass top stove?

Look for grill pans made from materials that are smooth and non-abrasive, such as cast iron, enameled cast iron, or stainless steel. Avoid pans with rough bottoms or those that are made from materials that can scratch the glass surface.

Are there any specific features to consider when using a grill pan on a glass top stove?

Yes, consider the weight and flatness of the grill pan. A heavier pan can provide better contact with the cooking surface, while a flat bottom ensures even heating and prevents wobbling that could scratch the glass.

Can I use a non-stick grill pan on a glass top stove?

Yes, you can use a non-stick grill pan on a glass top stove, but make sure it is specifically designed for such use. Check that the non-stick coating is durable and that the bottom is smooth to avoid scratching the glass surface.

What should I do if my grill pan is not recommended for glass top stoves?

If your grill pan is not recommended for glass top stoves, it's best to avoid using it to prevent damage. Consider investing in a grill pan that is specifically designed for glass top stoves to ensure safety and optimal cooking performance.
