We're just going to have a good time. Of course I want to do all the historical stuff (I was a history major), I want to go to Harrod's, London Eye, etc....

Any help would be appreciated. I've looked into some hotels in Kensington, Chelsea and Notting Hill, but of course I have no concept of distance because it's completely unfamiliar territory!

Tara, I used to live in London. My biggest question for you would be how many people are going and how much do you want to spend a night? also, how much or little walking can you do?

It's just my husband and I. We don't mind walking. A friend of mine said that the tube runs everywhere. We'd like to keep it right around 100 a night.

Thanks!

$100 or £100 a night?

My DH and I travel to London twice a year for a vacation(LOVE LONDON) u do have to look around to find a hotel at a good price. London can be very $$$$. For $100.00 US a night you will find a budget hotel you just have to look around. The tube is awsome and it really doesn't matter what area of london you stay in, you can get from A to B very easy. Good luck and have FUN:)

$100...that's about 200 pounds right? (sorry...don't know how to make the symbol!) We aren't looking for The Ritz, just something that's clean and decent.

What do you know about Westpoint Hotel or Abbey Court Hotel on Sussex Gardens in Hyde Park? They look to be owned by the same company and Have a reasonable rate...340 pounds for the week, plus tax I'm assuming.

I also found Ramada Encore London West at 4 Portal Way for $888.94 us for the week. Says it's in West London.

$100.00 US is only 51pounds. HTH

Crap...went the wrong way in the translation! I am so challenged when it comes to that stuff. I've never left the country, so this money thing is really getting me.

If you can leave it with me for a few days I'll find out what I can for you. :)

PS How long are you going for?

PPS, Hotel rates here include tax, every price everywhere does! :) It's all the same tax no matter where in the country.

Amber, you rock! We are arriving on Monday the 12th of March and leaving Sunday the 18th.

mmmmwwwah!

Here are the replies I got, let me know if you have any more questions for the girls:
are you aiming for £50 per person per night or £50 per room!! cos £50 per room per night is gonna get you no where near central i thinkive stayed at the Hilton Kensington and Hilton Metropole.Kensington one is a bus ride (15 mins or so) to harrods door (bus stop outside)the metropole is right across (or round the corner actually) from a subway stop. form there London is your oyster.
£50 per room is not going to get them anything much central - you MAY get a holiday Inn Express a bit further from the touristy bits for about £60 per night - they are reasonable hotels, but it depends what your friend wants?
x
50 a night would be hard. for locaity the west ie kensington is very good theres a holiday inn and a marriot on cromwell rd.
Hope that gives you some ideas!

Amber, you rock girl!

Here's what I found in a tourist ad that a friend gave me.

What do your friends know about the Abbey Court Hotel or Westpoint hotel at 174 Sussex Gardens in Hyde Park? They are quoting 340 pounds for the week (about 700 us dollars?) I also found the Ramada Encore London West on hotels.com for 888 us dollars for the week. They are located at 4 Portal Way.

We don't mind spending 100 bucks a night....i think i just had the conversions wrong. DUH!

On a lighter note, I got my passport in the mail today! yippee!!!

I wouldn't do the Ramada Encore London as it is going to be in Zones 2/3 (depending on which tube stop you use) and that is going to mean more travel time for you. Either of the ones near Paddington are going to be a better location. Pretty much for $100 a night you are not going to get a place you want to spend a ton of time in. you will get a safe hotel with your own room. I would think about your schedule for what you plan on doing. If you plan on being in bed by 11 everynight than somewhere near Paddington will be fine. if you want to stay out late you are going to want somewhere a little bit more central with more to do, as paddington is a pretty good area, just not with a hoppin nightlife or people watching places.

if you go to www.journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk you can type in the address of the hotel and any site you want to do to and it will tell you how to get there and how long it will take and how often it runs. This will help gauge if the area is one that is well suited for your travel needs.

hth! :)

So where would I want to stay if I want nightlife? This Abbey Court Hotel is 68 pounds per night with one night free. We're really just happy with a clean room and comfy bed to sleep in. We don't intend to spend a lot of time there!
