Baby Update: Exciting First Appointment and Due Date Changed to March 21st

In summary, Amanda had her first doctor's appointment where she saw the baby's heart beat for the first time and the heart rate was strong at 181. She was relieved to hear that the chance of miscarriage is now only 1%. Her due date has changed to March 21st based on the baby's measurement, but she is unsure about the accuracy. Her doctor also mentioned that the second baby is usually bigger, which worries her as her first two were 9lbs and 11lbs respectively. Amanda is thankful for no morning sickness and is planning to attend a leadership event. She has gained 19lbs already and is worried about getting bigger faster. Other moms in the conversation also shared their baby's birth weights and labor experiences

Okay we had our first appointment on Friday. I was so excited to see the heart beat for the first time. The heart rate was 181, and he said that was very strong. I was so excited to see just 1 baby, because I had dreams all last week it was twins. My doc said once they see a heart beat, and see the baby in the right spot there is only a 1% chance of miscarriage. So I was relieved to hear that. Now he did tell me that by the measurement of the baby, that my due date has changed to March 21st. Which I am not sure if he is right because when I took the test, I shouldn't have tested positive yet. So I will go with it, however that baby better not be one minute late. Then he tells me the second one is always bigger and I need to be careful because ds was close to 9lbs. :cry:His wife might place an order, she loves the products and he likes them too. Wahoo!:DI am thanking God everyday for no morning sickness:yuck:, while I'm knocking on wood.Well unless I get put on bed rest I am going to leadership. I have my ticket already and I will be walking as a new director w/ all my chef success buddies.:D So below is my adjusted ticker....

Oh Yeah!!!! Congratulations, My friend!!! You deserve the best! I'm so happy for you Amanda! ;):balloon::)

for a 2nd there I thought he was going to say you were having twins. Congrats on your pregnancy and your possible order

you will also get a lot bigger faster this time too! I feel like I am about the size I was when I delivered my son and I am only 20 weeks. YIPES! (and I've only gained 3 pounds, so it's not from pigging out!)

No, no, no Shana I am already 19lbs heavier than I was w/ ds. Oh that scares me, oh that really scares me. I have already gained 1lb

Sorry to say but my DD who was #2 was quite a bit bigger

DS 9lbs 2oz (12days late)

DD 11lbs 6oz (5days late)

Can you say HOLY COWPIE (substitute a four letter word there when I was told)! ha ha ha :)
He was vaginal and she turned into a C section (she had flipped the nightbefore and was presenting a foot!). Of course being a sumo wrestler at birth she could only be delivered to her thigh before Dr. had to give a vertical incesion to get the rest out!

I will pray hard my Amanda Dear that you have a beautiful child, happy, healthy, and not as big as mine! :) Oh- I loved meeting you at Conference!

Yeah Amanda! My second one was only 7 oz heavier...and MUCH easier delivery too! 4 hours (from start to finish) vs 41 hours !

Wow!! Great news on the baby!! Very exciting!!

AWESOME!!! I am very excited for you :)
My second one was smaller than the first and I think I gained about 10 pounds total.
Brin 8lbs 10 oz
Melody 8lbs 0 oz
Calvin 9 lbs 14 oz

Melody is my peanut, still is. No worries just eat healthy, stretch while you can and eat lots of asparagus (smart babies!)
You are in my thoughts...I miss you!

Amanda~

Thanks for the update! It is so reassuring to hear that heartbeat, huh? That was the only thing that "calmed" me till he got big enough for me to feel each day!

Prayers for NO SICKNESS, happy and healthy baby, and a smooth labor!

WOO HOO!! Congrats!!

Congrats!! My second one was also bigger, but also a boy, which are usually bigger anyway.
DD 8lbs 2 oz-natural with no drugs
DS 8lbs 9 oz-had petocin=epidural!
Both were a week early!! I'm glad they didn't go over, I would have had a toddler. Of course I see some of the others on here had ones big enough to be toddlers! LOL

Thanks for the baby update Amanda! Glad to hear it went well. My second child was about 8 ounces lighter than my first (and I had started out 20 pounds heavier too). And like Ginny, labor went much faster with the second one too :)!

congrats, Amanda. I did have twins with my first pregnancy (5 lbs 8 oz & 6 lbs -- not bad for a 100 lbs mom, pre-preg of course). My second pregnancy resulted in a 8 lb, 5 oz girl (the Dr told me the morning I delivered she'd be right around 7 lbs -- ha! of course, the Dr also didn't recognize that I was in labor & would deliver my DD 4 hrs later, but whatever!)
So, my experience is that 2nd babies COME MUCH FASTER. This has been born out by the experiences of just about every mom I know. 2nd time babies come quickly.

I couldn't put it in my siggy...something about our signature lines not allowing for certain types of links and such.

If you see my tickers:

It's because I copied and pasted them into the body of my reply!

Yeah for no twins, LOL! I don't know how people do that...
I definately got bigger with my second; but there was only 1oz difference in their size, I just carried my second out front & my first I carried more in my back. Boy, labor was definately easier with my second...I wasn't sure we were going to make it to the hospital!
Hope you have a breezy pregnancy:)

My dr. said my son would be 6-7 lbs. Ha! He finally popped out weighing 9lb3oz. My daughter was delivered on her due date since the ultrasound showed her already 8 lbs. She was 8lbs9oz. I gained 12 more lbs with her than I did the 1st time around. If you & your dr. are concerned about a large baby, he might induce so you aren't late & have one.
Good luck!!

  • #19
Congratulations Amanda! I'm so happy for you. I don't have any baby stories to add yet because so far all my babies are furry... lol. Some day!
But I do want to wish you all the health and happiness in the world with your new arrival.

  • #20
Congrats Amanda !!!!! I had small babies 6 lbs and 7 lbs

  • #21
Congrats, Amanda! That's exciting!:) Yep, my 2nd was bigger too. But that's because my first/son was induced 2 weeks early because I had preeclampsia, so he was 5 lbs 15 oz. My 2nd/daughter was 8 lbs 9 oz and I had no preeclampsia with her. She was HUGE compared to him!!!

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

Nope...2nd babies do not necessarily come faster! Mine didn't and I know MANY friends where the 2nd didn't. Each mom is different and each child is different. Medically, it isn't necessarily true either. You use caution because it CAN happen...the way is paved so to speak but it doesn't always happen.

1st child: 6 lbs. 10 oz. - induced 1 week late - 11 hours of labor with induction about 1 1/2 hours pushing.

2nd child: 9 lbs. 6 oz. - came over 1 week late - few days of labor (I go to the hospital when my contracts are 1 1/2 minutes apart and strong). Arrived at hospital at 2 a.m. - nurse thought by the contraction readings I'd progress fast...told her no...she believed me the next day when she was back on duty. I had DS after 10 a.m. with also about 1-2 hours of pushing.

1st child: 105 pre-pregnancy, about 132 during and 108 after...
2nd child: 108 pre-pregnancy, 162 during and 125 after...YIKES! Now that is a difference!

Congrat's Amanda.

My second was only 2 oz larger than my first, but my third was 1 lb 2 oz's less.

DS 1: 6 lbs 8 oz
DS 2: 6 lbs 10 oz
DS 3: 5 lbs 8 oz (left the hospital and he weighed 4 lbs 15 oz's)

Thanks you guys, I appreciate all the love & support.I had a fast delivery w/ ds 6 hours, so I am hoping I make it to the hospital and it comes fast. My SIL was in labor for 14 hours on her second, her labor was so slow until they told her to turn on her side and my nephew arrived 20 mins. later. I am not a layer in bed, I pace it was a lot easier to deal w/ the pain that way.Oh I forgot to tell you ds went w/ me to my appointment and saw the heartbeat. He kept asking the doctor to take the baby out now, he had no clue that it was too early. I keep telling him he has to wait until after x-mas & uncle Ben's b-day and then the baby will come. He did ask my bil this weekend when his b-day was, I knew what he was thinking.

Your first was almost the same as my ds. How funny! I miss you too, how is the fair going? I called Denise last week and talked to her, since she did leave me a message.

Glad to hear all is going well! I think that after pregnancy #1, the uterus goes "oh, yea, I've done this before!" and balloons!!!!!!!!
DS-Nathan-was 8 lbs 5 oz and was 2 weeks early
DD-Rachel- was 8 lbs even and 2 weeks early

Had we let them cook any longer, there is NO telling how we would have gotten them out! As it was, labor was 14 hours with DS and 7 with DD and I was drugged for both!

Meg I am so glad that they came early for you. My doctor told me on Friday, he had just delivered an 11lb baby the day before vaginal (ugh no Thank You). He said to make sure I walk, ride a bike for 30 minutes a day. I took it as his nice way of saying you are fat and you need to exercise. The funny thing is I had already been exercising, and Chicago I did double or Triple of what he said. I asked if that counted to take an extra week off and he laughed.

How exciting Amanda! Enjoy every bit of your pregnancy:) As far as second and third kids go - my oldest son was 10 lbs. 11 oz when he was born (only 2 days late) - I was induced yet thankfully had a c-section with him. We were shocked by the size as I'd only gained 30 lbs for the pregnancy. My second son was c-section again - 5 days early and was 9 lbs. 12 oz. and my daughter was also a c-section - 8 days early and weighed 9 lbs. 4 oz. Who knows how big my 2nd and 3rd would have been had it not been for their earlier planned c-sections. And each pregnancy I gained less weight too! Now, of course, I can't blame any extra weight on my pregnancies (since my youngest is 7!) - I hope your pregnancy and delivery go smoothly!:)

Congratulations!!

FYI, subsequent babies aren't always bigger. My 1st son was 1 1/2 weeks early, and was 9 lb 2 oz. My 2nd son was 1 week early, and 8 lb 7 oz (and had a much smaller head, thankfully!!). Try not to worry!

My mom was in labor for 38 hours with me...

Which could be why my sister (her second DD) is her favorite! LOL

Everyday I wish for this, ds had a huge head. When we would take him to the dr. they would say he is in th 25% for height, 75% weight, & his head circum. is in the 75%. So I would joke w/ them saying I had a short fat kid w/ a big head. Then one day it hit me why I had to have an appesiatomy (SP) & still tore.I really want a girl, but have a gut feeling that I have another boy growing inside. So I might still have a big baby, only time will tell.

I just got back from the dr. I had been spotting since Thursday and each day the spotting has gotten worse. We did an ultrasound, there was no heartbeat and the baby had not grown since my visit a week ago. So now we are waiting for nature to do it's thing or I will have a D&C later to take care of it.Thank you so much for all of you being so supportive, if I am not around you know why. Lacy can you keep the booking thread going for me? I need time to process this. I have a lot of baby tickers to delete.

Amanda I'm sorry to hear your news. I went through an emotional rollercoaster finding this thread for the first time. A neighbor of mine went through this 3 times and was so depressed and heartbroken each time especially since her sister in law was pregnant almost each time she was and had her babies. A couple of years ago she had her first precious baby girl and just had a gorgeous baby boy that's a few months old now. Find strengh in the support of your loved ones in this difficult time and remind yourself that you are blessed because you are loved. When the time is right it will happen and we will all rejoice with you. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

OMG, Amanda, I am soo sorry for this to happen. Prayers with you and your family. :(

Oh, no, Amanda - I'm so very sorry for your loss. I have been through miscarriage myself, and I would not wish it on anyone. My thoughts and prayers go out to you right now - please let me know if you need anything. (((HUGS)))

Well that just sucks big time! Amanda, I'm so very sorry- I cannot even begin to imagine the pain, and sadness. I would just love to drive to your house and give you a big fat hug and a pan of lemon bars (yes, they have healing powers!)

You will be in my prayers- I wish I could offer more than my sympathy...know that I hurt for you- I really do... Love to you, and prayers for grace and strength as you go through this!

Amanda,
I'm so sorry to log on today and see this news. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Take care of yourself.

Oh no Amanda...

I am so sorry to hear this. I pray for you and your DH...that you will both be a comfort to each other, and that God will bring others into your life right now to lift you up and encourage you. Know that there are MANY of us on here who will be lifting you up to God each time He brings you to our minds.

With love and prayers,
Kelly
