Anyone Want to Update Their Best/Worse Christmas Gift Now? Ha!

My MIL gave me a Summer Sausage on Christmas Eve. As Luke told her "That ain't much of a Christmas present!!!" Now, I love those things but I do not want one as a Christmas gift.

I did get a pair of leopard print Yellowbox shoes on Christmas morning. I have gotten Yellowbox for the last few years for them. She said the lady at the store told her if you did not have shoes to match your outfit you could always wear leopard.

I will go for BEST Christmas gift of the year....

After YEARS of driving old, barely running vehicles, my mother in law and grandmother in law wired me money to get a new used car!

We got a 2005 Mitsubishi Endeavor with less than 50K miles for $9200 out the door! I am so freaking excited right now!

(Most cars I have owned I would literally say a prayer that it won't die at the stop light).

bf & i got SPOILED this christmas. my grandparents bought us a kitchen aid mixer (!!!), my parents bought us a 16 piece pots & pans set & a george foreman grill, his parents bought us a treadmill & a laptop. shaun bought me an aquamarine ring (my birthstone) and the best boots ive ever laid eyes on! there was not one present that i opened on christmas that i wasnt completely shocked by my families generosity.

This year my dd got a used coloring book from my MIL. No joke. The pages were ripped out, it started at page 42 and half of it was colored already.

She also gave my husband scalp and hair shampoo, he's had his head shaved for over 2 yrs now. :grumpy:

Ok so this is not my worst gift ever, but it clearly is a BAD gift.

A friend of mine got a BOX OF BROWNIE MIX for christmas from her husband. BROWNIE MIX!!! Taken directly out of the walmart bag and handed to her!!

Had that been my husbands gift to me....he would have had a nice time sleeping in the shed with the dogs.

We got summer sausage too. Now, it is actually a "side" gift that we get every year but this year it was wrapped and given to us at Thanksgiving when we were home visiting and we were not told what it was but just told to put it under the tree. When we opened it there were two blocks of Kraft cheese with it. From the refrigerated section of the grocery store. It says clearly on the side of the cheese keep refrigerated. But we weren't told there was cheese in there and we were given it five weeks before Christmas to put under our tree. NICE!

I'm really loving this thread! I can't really ever remember receiving a "bad" gift.

My parents are famous for giving gifts that we don't really need. Like last year they gave us a dishwasher for Christmas, which is a great gift except it was white and I am changing over to all SS. I did trade it in and get a SS one. My DH received an Axe from his parents some years ago, if you new my DH you would understand how odd that is.

My in-laws gave me PJ's for Christmas, I love PJ's except the XL size was kind of offensive!!

Last year we had a t-shirt made for my mother in law and I specifically ordered it in a size medium (she is not by any means a large women but she is tall) because she had made the statement the last time that she visited that she was tired of people offending her by giving her size L shirts because she wasn't a size large - now the really offensive part of this statement is that I DO need a size XL or even 2XL and she told me how offensive it was to be given a L, I mean think before you speak to someone who is standing directly in front of you for crying out loud) Anyway.....she called upset on Christmas morning because her shirt was too small.

I don't need that kind of "interesting" behaviour in my life! More like dramatic!
Linda had asked if she was clinically "ok"...I would say not...I do think she would be a good candidate for medication of the strong sort...but she has always done stupid things like that. I'm glad that my daughter is still young enough to not really care. I can't wait for the day when she actually knows the difference and says something to her.

I got a purple blanket from my MIL. It is one of those wrap around, zip up, snap things. It is sooo warm, but it's purple. Now purple isn't bad in general, but my mil said when she saw it, she thought of me. WHY? I never wear purple. There is nothing in my house that is purple. I can't leave it out, hanging with the other blankets because it would look ridiculous. What in the world? I really can't believe she said she thought of me when she saw the purple one. Whatever!

Here's another story. My mom got all the boys (men) a shredder for Christmas - my brother, my husband, and my two bil's. Not a bad gift, right? The problem is that she bought them all one last year. She forgot that she bought them all one last year. We had a good laugh. She gave them all money and took them back herself.

I can't say I've gotten a "bad" gift -- occasionally things that don't suit me well -- like my aunt that really felt that I needed a checkbook length wallet so gave me one (a designer one at that) every year for FIVE years. I prefer and use a smaller wallet (slightly larger than credit card size) that will fit into my coat pocket and don't carry a checkbook with me. But she meant the gift sincerely so I don't consider it bad.I guess the more useless gifts that I end up every year is lots of candles and seasonal candle holders. I have a small child so don't burn candles except for the rare occasion when the power goes out -- and I literally have a CHEST of nothing but candles. If the power grid went down permanently, I still have enough candles to last out the rest of the decade at least!I have too much clutter that we are trying to downsize and get rid of, so honestly I really wanted almost NOTHING for Christmas this year (or at least not stuff that was in our budget!) I'm not a jewelry person (my wedding and engagement rings and a necklace are the only jewelry I wear and I just don't want more)This year the best gift would be the surprise Wii I got (plus a Wii Fit) ... my MIL knew my husband had gotten it for us so she also gave us a game and accessories for it.

My husband was looking for motorcycle parts. Or he may buy books because I didn't get him any (he didn't tell me which ones he wanted). Or we may pool our Christmas money and buy an electric bass guitar. I keep spending my money, though, so I don't think the bass guitar is going to happen.

Okay, my husband got this from his Mom and Dad this year for Christmas.
I didn't see him open it when she came (by the way they stay about 20-30 mins never take their shoes or coats off to stay) Our own son doesn't even remember his grandfathers first name!
Okay off track I came to say hi, Merry Christmas etc... and he says look what Mom gave me, it was a purple-pink plastic barbie like scooter!!!
It has a license plate on the back with My Scene ( I think I remember when my daughter played with that brand of dolls) and the name Chelsea on the license plate!???
My husband drives rather large motorcycle and NOT a scooter, why she thought we needed this crap in our house is beyond me!
I told him to take it our side and put it on his toolbox!! I asked why on earth she would have gotten him that, and he has no clue. I wonder if she went around the house looking for something!!:grumpy:

every year from my MIL I get a purse. Half the time it is a new purse, the other times it is a hand-me-down of her's. She is a big purse person. I am not. Now that I am in PC, I use PC purses all the time. I have no idea what I am going to do with all the purses I have on my closet top shelf.

Somehow I'm feeling better about the tablecloths I got last year from my MIL. Maybe it's the dried-up cord story that makes me somehow feel better. Last year I got two tablecloths (and not very nice ones at that) and two cheap potholder/oven mitt sets from the dollar store (and I know this because the price tags are almost ALWAYS on the gifts I get from my in-laws). Since we draw names for the adults on DH's side of the family, it was the ONLY gift I got last year. MIL drew my name two years in a row.

Then there was the year that they gave me a pair of kid's pajamas with their favorite college team's logo all over them. They were hinting that they wanted us to have a kid. Guess it wasn't their fault that I had been seeing an infertility specialist for over eight months already and had gone through two failed treatments at that point. Yeah, that was a fun year, trying to not burst into tears opening that gift.

OH, and then there was the year I got the hot cocoa/mug set...you know the one they sell at the checkout at WalMart for $7.99 with the really chintzy mugs and the really bad instant cocoa. Again, still with a price tag on it. I think DH and I had been married two years at that point. Which means I'd been with him for four years at that point.

THIS YEAR I am happy to report that DH called his folks and told them exactly what to get me, as well as the store where they could get it on sale that week. My FIL had drawn my name, and was pretty clueless...I did my little happy dance in my mind when I opened the first season of "Chuck" on DVD. It was my favorite Christmas present this year.

Last year my BF's father picked out my present. It was a sweater and so not me. It hung in my closet for like 4 mths and then I gave it to my sister. This year his mom picked out my present and got me sweatpants and a zip-up sweatshirt...not a bad gift at all. She said she knew I was always cold and loved my sweats. The only problem...both two different sizes and neither one was my size. We returned them for store credit b/c I don't shop at that store. BF bought me a pair of jeans from Macy's and is taking the store credit for himself.
My mom always gets me stupid stuff as "extras". I asked her for a gift certificate to Victoria's Secret and let her know she could go online and get it. So she got me one and then bought little stupid stuff b/c she wanted me to have more to open. I think she spent about $50 on stupid meaningless stuff that I don't need when she could have put that in the gift certificate. Oh well.

MY BEST gift this year...hmm...tough call. My BF got me Doc Martens (LOVE THEM) and pink pearls (while he was in Kuwait) and a new microwave and stove. But the BEST BEST gifts were from my brother ( Beatles Monopoly, I LOVE the Beatles) and my uncle made me a bench/table that looks rustic primitive. He said he was going to try his hand and it was his first peice and he was nervous I wouldn't like it. I LOVE IT!!!! I love that when he was trying to figure out who to make it for that he thought of me and that he made this on his own just for me. I LOVE IT!!! I told him to keep "trying" new things and giving them to me!! LOL!!

Yeah and the umbilical cord thing...EWWWWWWWWWW
