I have a ton of walnuts left and was wondering if anybody has ever made the peacan lattce tart with any other kind of nuts before?? Or does anybody have any good recipes using walnuts?? Only thing I can think of is making cookies and I AM ALL COOKIED OUT!!

Thanks guys,

Rennea

I love to toss a few in a fresh spinach salad. It's really simple. I make it with spinach, carrots, raspberry vinegrette, craisins, and walnuts. I just put them in plain, but you could toaste them to bring out the flavor a little more. Also on foodnetwork.com Emeril has a recipe for spiced nuts. They are SPICY, but add a little kick to a salad.

Happy Cooking!

A friend of mine swears the she makes the Pecan Tassies with walnuts instead of Pecans & no one knows the difference. Also you can make them up & freeze them..;) I have frozen them for a couple of months & they were just as good. Also I read a thread before about the pepper glazed Pecans & they said they used Walnuts & came out fine. One last thing...Banana Bread is WONDERFUL with them, would not make them any other way( also Cranberry bread with walnuts.HTH....:D :D :D

I keep nuts frozen for AGES. Then the oils in them don't go rancid, and they're available if I decide to whip something up that needs some.Put them into a heavy plastic bag. One that's specifically labeled as a Freezer bag should work. Then you can pull out a cup at a time for your recipes. They'll thaw in no time at all.

I just reread that and decided it didn't sound at all like what I meant.

Anyhoo, I generally use the specific type of nut mentioned in a recipe as a guideline. Unless it's a very specific recipe (like Chocolate Hazelnut Cake), I use whatever I have on hand or like better. :)

I am dying to try the Pecan Lattice Tart once things calm down around here - it is easy?

If you are speaking literally, then "no" they won't get freezer burn with the proper packaging. If you are talking figuratively then I would have no idea never was the cause of that particular ailment!:p

I haven't had a problem with freezer burn. That's a problem with moist foods, and nuts don't have enough moisture in them to do that. There's one bag of almonds in my freezer I've had for probably 2 years. They're fine.

walnuts seasoned with rosemaryTry seasoning some walnuts with the Rosemary Seasoning mix and a little bit of cayenne pepper. Melt a couple tablespoons of butter w/the seasonings, and then toss in the walnuts. I made these for a New Year's reception the other night....they received lots of "wow's".

I got this recipe from someone else, but the Sweet Glazed Pecans are really good...and I made a lot of batches during the holidays, and mixed pecans, walnuts and almonds - all good!!!1 egg white
1-8 oz. package pecan halves
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 tsp. PC cinnamon
Combine all ingredients and bake at 350 degrees on parchment lined bar pan for 18-20 minutes
