I received a call this week from a very good friend of mine, and past host. She just found out she has breast cancer and it has spread into her lymph nodes. There is no history of cancer in her family and she's been faithful in yearly checkups, so this has come to a complete surprise to her and her family. She will be undergoing more tests followed by treatment -- please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

Prayers being said...

Prayers coming your way.

Prayers for her. Maybe catching it early will make it curable!

Prayers definitely being said for your friend.

Maybe this is a good time to think about participating in the Great Strides walk in her honor and checking to see if she would want to walk with you (if she's up for it)? I'm working on setting up my team in front of my friend's MIL. The walk has a great purpose anyway, but it takes on a very special meaning when it's more personal for you or someone you walk with/for.

prayers & hugggggs.

Sending prayers her way.

She'll be in my prayers.

My prayer list is sure growing with this site. I'll definitely add your friend to my list.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are some practical ways to support a friend with breast cancer?

Supporting a friend with breast cancer can involve various practical actions. You can offer to help with daily tasks such as cooking meals, running errands, or providing transportation to medical appointments. Additionally, being there to listen and provide emotional support can be invaluable. Organizing a meal train or coordinating a support group can also help alleviate some of the burdens they may be facing.

How can I help my friend emotionally during their treatment?

Emotional support is crucial for someone undergoing cancer treatment. You can help by being a compassionate listener, allowing them to express their feelings without judgment. Encourage them to share their fears and concerns, and remind them that they are not alone. Sending thoughtful messages, cards, or small gifts can also lift their spirits and show that you care.

Should I bring up their diagnosis or treatment, or wait for them to talk about it?

It's important to be sensitive to your friend's feelings. If they seem open to discussing their diagnosis, feel free to ask how they are doing. However, if they appear uncomfortable, it's best to wait for them to bring it up. Let them lead the conversation, and follow their cues on what they want to share.

Are there specific resources or organizations I can recommend to my friend?

Yes, there are many resources available for individuals with breast cancer. Organizations like the American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen Foundation, and Breast Cancer Research Foundation offer support, information, and community resources. You can also look for local support groups or online forums where they can connect with others who understand their experience.

How can I encourage my friend to take care of themselves during this time?

Encouraging self-care is essential for someone dealing with breast cancer. You can suggest activities that promote relaxation and well-being, such as yoga, meditation, or gentle exercise. Offer to join them in these activities to provide companionship and support. Remind them to prioritize rest, nutrition, and mental health, and help them find resources or professionals that can assist with these aspects.
