Prayer Request for New Nephew - Medical

I forgot to share that I had a new nephew born Monday, June 25th! Jacob John.

Mom and baby were doing great until Mom put Jacob on her shoulder yesterday to burp him and he turned blue and almost passed out. We got a call this morning telling us.

After an EKG they have found 1 hole in his heart and 99% sure there is a second. He is being transferred to the Children's Hospital today and we'll hopefully know more later.

His mom (my sister-in-law) was the one in the car accident about 8-10 weeks ago that had broken both her ankles.

Please keep them in your prayers!

I'll wait Ann and see how Lisa does, if she does want the information, I'll PM you. Lisa (mom) is a nurse. We have a niece who is 18 and was born with a hole in her heart and another SIL (Lisa's sister - mom of niece with hole in heart) who had a stroke 2 weeks before my wedding at age 34 and they found a hole in her heart too. They have no proof it is genetic yet (per research, still being studied), but this is the 3rd case in 2 generations, and they are pretty positive it skipped a generation and also has occurred in prior generations, but there isn't the medical records to show it.

My younger sister was born with 3 holes in her heart. She went through a lot in her first couple of years, but she's doing great now - she just graduated high school this year! I agree with Ann, it's great to be a part of a support group (my mom was).

I will keep your nephew and family in my prayers!

No update yet this afternoon - it's driving me crazy to go all day without hearing about my nephew!

My mom had a stroke in December of 2002. They found out she had a hole in her heart and probably had it since birth. They even found that she had previous strokes but they didn't affect parts of her brain that mattered. CRAZY!! I will say a prayer for the baby and all of you! They can fix those holes!! Keep the faith.

How scary!! Baylor is 3 weeks old today and I still have the hormones rushing though me- I can't imagine how she is coping with this only 3 days after giving birth. I will pray for your whole family and please update us when you can!

Update: Jacob is not transferred yet, still at original hospital on a monitor in the neonatal unit. Mom is discharged today but staying at the hospital as a guest to be with the baby. She is a little shook up by all this even though there is a family history and her sister went through the same thing with her child.

The medical records were sent by courier to Chicago for a consultation but the courier was slow and the doctor wasn't available when the records got there. So, everyone is just in a holding pattern now until the doctor can review he records tomorrow. Jacob is doing o.k. so far.

Update - FINALLY tonight. There is only one hole on the ventrical side. The specialist thinks it will close on its own in 7-10 days. That is AWESOME news!

I just found out that my aunt has had a hole in her heart since birth, and it wasn't diagnosed until 5 years ago. So it is possible to live a perfectly normal life, especially if your family is aware of the problem already.

Still sayin' a prayer for all involved.

My SIL had a hole in her heart from birth. They found hers when 2 weeks before my wedding at age 34, she bent over in a bar to pick up darts and had a stroke.

They were able to patch hers through a vein in her leg. Her daughter, 10 years earlier at the time of surgery, had full open-heart surgery. Both are doing well nowadays. SIL has some short-term memory effects but not too bad.

Meet my new nephew guys!!!! I got to hold him on Sunday before I headed back up north.

He snuggled up to me and fell right asleep.

He still has 1 hole left the other closed, but it is only the size of a pin hole.

I am sooooooooo happy that God answered all of the prayers for him!

Things like this can be so nerve wracking. DH's cousin has 3 kids. The two girls have had repairs of holes in their hearts. My nephew, 8 years old had a repair done at Cleveland Clinic. His mom and grandma both have holes which were diagnosed after his. All his cousins on mom's side have been evaluated.

That is SOOOO similar to our family. A little less than 10 years ago they tried to say it wasn't genetic but there are too many instances like this. I know when DH's sister was in the hospital in Myrtle Beach they were taking blood samples from his whole family to try to find a genetic link. That was about 8 years ago.
