Had a first time show attender recently who also booked a show. She is wanting to borrow my deep dish baker to see if it will bake a cake that is level--not a rounded top and not too crumby and falls out of the stone. Any suggestions I should give to her. She said that if this works she will be buying the collection as she can. This is the principal of my kids schools wife!
Sadly, I don't do alot of experimenting with our products. I use them for the basics or if I've been shown something that works with them. I love the products or I wouldn't be doing this but don't know all the little quirks that you may be familiar with.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You absolutely can bake a cake in the DDB. Remember, however, that it's an 11" round, not 8 or 9, which is standard for layer cakes.

There was a recipe a few years back for a Banana Split Cake made in the DDB - it had caramel and nuts on it. Delish!

You can also use the 12" skillet for a cake. Sell that cookware!

The Tres Leches Cake from a couple of seasons ago was really good.

In one of the PC recipe books there is a Moka Chocolate Cake done in the deep dish that is too die for. Can't remember which cookbook it's in though.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Deep Dish Baker and how is it used for cakes?

The Deep Dish Baker is a versatile stoneware piece from Pampered Chef designed for baking a variety of dishes, including cakes. Its unique design allows for even heat distribution, which helps in achieving a perfectly baked cake with a level top and a crumb-free finish. To use it for cakes, simply prepare your batter, pour it into the baker, and follow the baking instructions specific to your recipe.

How can I ensure my cake comes out level when using the Deep Dish Baker?

To ensure your cake comes out level, make sure to evenly distribute the batter in the Deep Dish Baker. You can do this by pouring the batter into the center and gently spreading it out towards the edges with a spatula. Additionally, tapping the baker gently on the counter before baking can help eliminate air bubbles that may cause uneven rising.

What tips can I follow to achieve a crumb-free cake?

To achieve a crumb-free cake, start by properly greasing the Deep Dish Baker with non-stick spray or butter. Allow the cake to cool in the baker for about 10-15 minutes before removing it, as this helps set the structure. When it's time to remove the cake, run a knife around the edges to loosen it and then invert it onto a cooling rack. This method minimizes crumbs and helps maintain a clean finish.

Are there specific recipes that work best in the Deep Dish Baker?

While the Deep Dish Baker can be used for a variety of cake recipes, denser cakes like pound cakes, brownies, and cheesecakes tend to work particularly well. These recipes benefit from the stoneware's ability to retain heat and provide even baking. However, you can experiment with any cake recipe, adjusting baking times as needed.

What should I do if my cake sticks to the Deep Dish Baker?

If your cake sticks to the Deep Dish Baker, it may be due to insufficient greasing or not allowing the cake to cool properly. To prevent this, always grease the baker thoroughly before adding the batter. If you encounter sticking, gently run a knife around the edges and try to loosen it before inverting. If it still sticks, you can serve it directly from the baker, using a spatula to carefully lift out portions.
