Discovering Simple Pleasures: A Non-Millionaire's Perspective on Enjoying Life

In summary, most millionaires are unhappy because they spend most of their time worrying about money and investments instead of enjoying the simple things in life.

it's a rich man's world...
Well, I gotta tell you all, since I have been out of work and collecting unemployment I have learned some really neat things. Did you know that almost 93% of all millionaires are miserable! They spend so much time worrying about the money markets, stocks and interest rates that they rarely see anything in their worlds except bank statements and dividend checks. Last night I had a party in Cudahy, Wisconsin. Since I do not work full time, I really enjoy myself now more than ever before. I may work my butt off and sweat up a storm but I really enjoy the company of the hosts and their guests. Now, it was about 4 miles south of where I live and we had awful storms here. In fact, I drove home in the middle of a tornado warning! Got home just in the nick of time and unloaded my car just as it started to blow and pour. The sky was so full of thunder and lightning that it seemed almost continuous. It was the most beautiful thing I had seen in a long time. Sounds weird but since I do not work except to put out resumes and do interviews that do not seem to pan out, I have started to take notice of all the wonderful things around me that as a person who worked 40 to 60 hours a week and did PC parties, never really noticed before. After I got home, I parked my butt on my front porch out of the rain and just watched in amazement. That was until it became so bad, I had to go in. I wonder how much I have missed in the last 13 years? What is something you have noticed around you that you as a non-millionaire makes you stop for at least a moment to enjoy it? What are some of your simple pleasures?

My sister's kids are my simple pleasures! They are so great! And the little ones are so sweet and innocent! I just took her 4 year old to the zoo and the 7 and 9 year old to an arcade on Saturday (my treat for having such a great month last month).I'm glad that you were able to find a bright moment in your life!

The beauty around us that God made for us to enjoy! Flowers, trees, nature. We rush by doing what we need to do and miss so much. The saying "take time to smell the roses" is so true and needed!

I also am always touched by the miracle of babies. They are amazing and what it's all about!

PS: John, I used to live in Cudahy but for much of my life lived just south of there in South Milwaukee (those who know WI know that's a city, not the south side of Milwaukee - that's a total different place).

I agree with wadesgirl ... small children. I child sit my grandkids... 1 yr old, 3 yr old, 40 months and 5 yrs, every day while their parents work. I love to listen to their stories or watch a spider climb a rock, answer their questions and wonder about everything around them. Did the same while raising their parents and running a daycare but still don't think I had as much fun as I do now with the grandkids.... they truly amaze me at times with their questions and answers at such a young age!

flowers, sunrises and sunsets, lightning, my kids faces and my grandkids... Jesus all around me ... gotta love Him!

Working in the church food pantry ... can't believe how rewarding that is .. people say things like, "stop blessing me, I'm not used to it" and "I was praying that God would send me some food."

Family ... I have no kids of my own but my niece has a 3 year old. This summer I will be seeing my cousin who lives out of state and the 6 year old she just adopted ... probably her brother's newborn as well.

Work giving me a day off to tend to my car problems!

Snuggling in bed every morning with my kids before we get up... Couldn't do that if I had to jump up and get in the shower to rush off to a 'regular' job.

I gotta tell you what I did today. I sat on my front porch with my kitty for more that 10 minutes! It was muggy and warm and all I could think was wow, I have missed so much! And yes I agree about kids! Well at least one very lovely 7 month old named Carley. She was my hosts first baby. Such big blue eyes just taking in the awe of everything around her! And those tiny little fingers! I met my dad at a specialist for something we all thought was an infection in his leg. He drove an hour to meet with the same doctor that healed me in 2005 - 2006. The nurse remembered me! The doctor sort of did but really did after he heard my name. After all my dad and mom did for me when I was sick, it was wonderful to be able to be there with him today. He is OK and will some treatment but not for an infection. But I felt really good because I could help him ask the right questions. I never would have been able to do that if I had been working. I actually saw him smile when he saw me sitting there as he had no idea I was coming. That was all I needed today.

I have the freedom to completely rearrange my schedule with little notice. This helped me to be beside my friend as she battled cancer. It helps me to dad-sit when my parents come to visit. It allows me to be there for the people I love, which, of course, allows me to notice how rich in people I am.
