I would love to start a recipe by pantry item. I am a scratch cook and have a hard time coming up for uses for our pre-mixed pantry items. Please share what you have used different spices, rubs and sauces for.

Tonight I made baked pork chops in the oven and put the Spicey Pineapple Rum Sauce on half of them and the other half I put the new Raspberry Habanero Sauce on and they were awesome! The other night I made baked hot wings and used a cup of the new Chili Pepper Sauce in the recipe and it was wonderful! My kids loved them!

Here is what I did...

Line a sheet pan with aluminum foil and lightly grease with a few sprays of oil from the Kitchen Spritzer. Place 3/4 cup flour, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, and 1/2 tsp salt in a resealable plastic bag, and shake to mix. Add 20 chicken wings and toss until well coated with flour mixture. Place the wings onto the prepared sheet pan, and place into the refrigerator for at least 1 hours.

Preheat oven to 400.

Whisk together 1/2 cup melted butter and 1 cup (room temperature) Chili Sauce in Small Batter Bowl. Dip the wings into the butter mixture and place back on the baking sheet. Bake for about 45 minutes turning wings over halfway through cooking in order to cook evenly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are some easy recipes I can make using pantry staples?

There are many easy recipes you can create using pantry staples! Consider making a simple pasta dish with olive oil, garlic, and any canned vegetables you have on hand. Another option is a hearty soup using broth, canned beans, and frozen or dried vegetables. You can also whip up a quick stir-fry with rice, soy sauce, and any leftover proteins or veggies.

How can I enhance the flavor of my pantry meals?

To enhance the flavor of your pantry meals, use spices and herbs that you have on hand. Dried herbs like oregano, basil, and thyme can add depth to your dishes. Additionally, incorporating condiments such as soy sauce, vinegar, or hot sauce can elevate the taste. Don't forget to taste and adjust seasoning as you cook!

What are some tips for meal planning with pantry items?

When meal planning with pantry items, start by taking inventory of what you have. Create a list of recipes that utilize those ingredients. Aim to include a variety of proteins, grains, and vegetables to ensure balanced meals. Consider batch cooking and freezing portions for later use, which can save time and reduce food waste.

Can I use expired pantry items in my cooking?

While some pantry items may still be safe to use past their expiration dates, it's essential to check for signs of spoilage. Canned goods can often last beyond their date if the can is intact, but dry goods like pasta and rice should be inspected for any off smells or discoloration. When in doubt, it's best to err on the side of caution and discard any questionable items.
