So, we were going to get dressed to leave for church in 1/2 hour but it is -16 degrees F right now with pretty strong winds.

I'm being bad today but I really don't want to bundle and take 2 kids about 15 miles to church in this cold/wind/icy roads. <sigh> Guess we'll work on AWANA stuff at home.

God will understand Janet. It is also a safety thing too.

LOL, I just posted on another thread about the bad weather here - sounds about the same as yours! Almost everything is closed around here, and the county police are asking people to stay off the roads. We are doing home church today.:D

At least you're doing church at home. My ds and dh are playing a racing game on the Wii.

NeighborsSeems like everytime I read your weather report Janet it's the same here! I live in Northwestern PA right on Lake Erie and it's ___ty right now! Blizzard like:yuck:

Just a weather update from here......Temp is +1, but with the wind chill, feels like -24, with 30 mph winds, and gusts of over 50 mph......BRRRRRRR!

I'm going to wash the bed sheets. Serving is a way of worshiping. I'm serving my family by washing bed sheets. Of course, no one in my family cares if the bed sheets are clean but me. God cares!

Our wind just seemed to die a little but brrr...still cold!

Our dogs BEG to be out even when it is zero. Right now they are curled up at my feet!

I look at it this way. Serving God shouldn't be a Sunday thing, it should be a daily thing! So, God won't care where you worship. :)

I really wanted to play my Passion CD today though - kids have had the SAME worship tape in the van for almost 2 years now - listen to it DAILY. I wanted a change but DH has it at camp! :(

Wow! I worshipped alot yesterday! I was trying to eradicate all germs and viruses from this house, so I washed EVERYTHING.....and used disinfectant on anything that wouldn't go in the washing machine.......even got Rick and Micah in on the act. Micah took disinfectant wipes and wiped down his toys, and Rick scrubbed the floors and walls on his hands and knees. That was more about being tired of being sick than it was about worshipping though......

You guys must be feeling better to get all that cleaning done! Yeah!

This weather sounds familiar! It's -2 with a windchill of -28 here in the Chicago 'burbs. VERY windy!!! I'm kind of glad my show cancelled for today. I didn't feel like driving west through cornfields and getting blown off the road. At least it's not snowing!!

It's a good day to working on entering my expenses into P3 like I should have been doing all year long. I've got to get this done so we can do taxes!

Stay warm, everyone!:D

I have got to hand it to you, I don't know how you guys do it. I could never live in weather like that. I wouldn't go outside all winter!

Not to rub it in  but, we are off to the beach today. Supposed to be in the 60's out there and no fog!

:)

But my kids get to go cross-country skiing and build snowmen and have the pleasure of throwing snowballs and seeing how every snowflake looks different...

Not to mention icicles, and building igloo houses, and the list goes on...

Good thing everyone is home safe and sound!

I was the only one that went to church...and if it wasn't for a few things that I *HAD* to do there today, I would have stayed home too. Evan is sick so I didn't want him giving it to any other kids. Good thing he stayed home, DH said Evan threw up about 20 minutes before I got home. Ugh. That would have been nasty in the car driving home!

The winds are wicked here too...not quite as cold, though. It's a balmy 14 degrees here with a windchill of zero. Guess I shouldn't be whining...you all have it much worse. (Except for Sarah, who we all hate today. LOL)

Our weather is in the 50's today but very windy.

Please keep us in your prayers today. I have to take my DS back up into the mountains today for school (he came home to get a wisdom tooth pulled yesterday). - He goes to college 2 1/2 hours from here and parts of the road are narrow mountain roads and with up to 70 MPH winds predicted it could get a little scary especially if there are many semis on the road.

We went to church....it was -4 on the way there.

Drive safe Beth!!!!

  • #21
we skipped out on church today too....-40 to -50 below windchills was enough to keep us and the three kids in the house and away from driving 30 miles to church...Thankfully it's supposed to warm back up a little bit tomorrow....a whoppin' 9 above...but that'll make it feel about 50 degrees warmer than today, so I might have to go to the Julie Weitz training in a t-shirt!! NOT!! :)

Sorry to hear about everyone's horrific weather:(

It's 65 degrees down here in NC, so I need to never complain about feeling cold again :balloon:

Hope you're all staying warm. My DH and I are wishing we had a fireplace right now!

Beth, please let us know when you get home so that we know you made it there and back safely.

I had our woodburning stove going most the day...then got tired of the house being 82 and let the fire die...don't know if I'll start it up before bed again and give the furnace another break...we'll see...

Schools are already closing for tomorrow. Nothing in my county, but all around in surrounding counties, schools are closing. I have a busy day tomorrow so if the kids are home, they're on their own..

Might be TMI re: my DS, but...... we were all getting ready for church today and then the 4yo DS (who was in the bathtub) decided he needed to go to the potty. Of course, we are STILL trying to potty train him and the poor little thing is going to see GI specialist for his persistant constipation (that is a whole other story), so DH took DD to church and DS and I stayed home. We ended up having our own "praise" time when he started yelling for me to come into the bathroom... he had gone #1 AND #2!!! I know all moms with potty training kids can understand how this experience, in and of itself, is a cause for some exuberant hallelujahs!!!

Oh, and JAE...

Oh, boy, do I ever! We've had some pretty big celebrations over what is in the potty!:D

You're lucky then! My DH was known to clog the toilet with various objects when he was little - thought it was fun to flush things...

Glad to hear you're feeling better Becky!

My morning started in the U.P...spent yesterday snowshoeing about 1/2 hour west of the bridge. It was a beautiful day day, about 32 degrees, fresh snow, great friends!

But today....hmmm...another story. A drive that normally takes about 4 1/2 hours took 8..we got stuck behind a pile up on I-75, had to double back north, take a back road back to the highway. Fortunately, it was nice up to about 45 miles east of my house, where it got ickky again. Curse blowing snow and icy roads when it's cold and salt and sand don't work!

BTW, the drive across the Mackinac Bridge was about the scariest I've ever experienced...not bad in the middle where there was no snow on the sides to blow around, but on the north end, it was complete white-out. Max speed was 20 MPH. It was kind of hard to be scared of blowing over into the lake, however, because you couldn't even see it.....They closed the bridge about 3 hours after we went over it.

Yeesh. And to think, last week at this time I was getting home from my vacation in the tropics :)

Wow Jean! Glad you made it home safely.....The State Police were closing highways all around you, and I did read that they closed the Mighty Mac....NO WAY would I have been going across that in this weather! You are a brave woman.

Everything is closed today - and again they are saying that roads are treacherous, but the salt and other melting agents don't work when the temps are this low....and the weather report just said that it was going to be even worse tomorrow at this time. :yuck: :yuck: :yuck:

-16 here and getting leaving in a few minutes for school/work!

It's something negative this morning with the windchill. I quit paying attention in January to the actual tempurature. I just know that it's COLD!

  • #34
Thanks for the concern! (And SO glad that you made it safe on your journey too Jean!)

It was VERY windy - the car was bounced several times - it was definitely a two hands on the wheel drive. The way home wasn't as bad once I got past the mountains but then there was a multicar accident up ahead of us and it took an hour to go less than a mile (I pray everyone involved was unhurt).

Today is predicted to be in the 40's and sunny and then we'll get back to the mid to high 50's again.

edited to correct spelling...

Glad to hear you made it ok. It's still cold here: -5 on my car thermometer when I left for work this morning.

Oh yes, I'm bad about this. My DH has to keep me on it. I made a dent in it yesterday, but I have way more to go. It's such a pain to save it until the end, but I totally bring it on myself.

As for today's weather, it's -2, but luckily NO wind it seems, so there's no windchill. Woo hoo! We're expecting more so later today and tomorrow (up to 5 " in my area) but the bad part will be because the ground is so cold, the salt and stuff they'll put down won't work and snow will stick to the roads immediately. Great!!!:grumpy:

Stay warm!
