Hi,

I don't know where to start this thread and just added it under bookings.

Anyways, my question is does everyone do the same demo talk at shows? The reason I ask is when previous guests become hosts, I don't want them to be bored and I also don't want to become so predictable. Am I just being silly or do others have the same concern.

Thanks!

I try to change it up a bit with the games I play or the additional products I bring. Sometimes I have guests book parties and want me to prepare the same recipe they had at their friend's house. I strongly try to discourage that. I say wouldn't it be nice to serve a dessert or a different main dish. Then I give them specific suggestions. Typically, my demo is only the same if I'm doing the same recipe. Also, I have my host very involved in the show so even if it is the same for her she is "working" and not missing anything.

Always, Always, Always try to get them to invite different people! Getting a new crowd helps a ton!!

I agree with ChefKearns. I am willing to do the same recipe. I just do a different ice breaker and play a different game.

I also do the same recipe but, sometimes I will switch it up a bit. Recently I had a show where I did the Ham and Cheese Omelet Roll and I was doing another with a lot of the same attendees and I substituted the ham and green onions with sausage and sauteed white onions...

I have done less than 20 shows so don't have a true pattern, but I seem to be doing completely different things every time. On one hand, I like this cause it keeps it interesting and means I'm flexible for the crowd. On the other hand, it means I'm always testing new recipes (I have yet to find something that I'm real excited about since I'm not a big meat eater and want to offer healthy options) and scrambling to organize the products. In the next two weeks, I have: bridal shower, mommy and me daytime show, "Girl's night out"/no demo, two "traditional" shows. BEE

Try the antipasto vegetable pizza from Seasons Best 2006. It is very good. I made it at a show and the guests told me later they were not sure they would like it, but after I finished it and they tried it, they LOVED it! It sold several Seasons Best cookbooks.

We are much more aware of what we say at each show than even our most ardent groupies. After five years, my presentation is somewhat the same, even some of my stories. Occasionally if I leave out a story one of the guests will say “hey tell them about. . .”. As long as you can keep yourself from getting board, don’t worry. You’ve got too much to remember to talk about without trying to remember what NOT to talk about.

The only thing I make an effort not to repeat is the recipe. That may sound easy, but I like to do the same recipe for as long as humanly possible . If Jane booked off of Sue, we won’t have the same recipe at Jane’s show and the next time I have a show with Sue I’ll do something different.

I try to do a different recipe requiring different tools. For instance one may be where the spotlight is stoneware so I do a ring or braid another might include the cookware. If the host insists on doing the same recipe then I will do a braid if a ring was made at the first show. So at least they are learning a new technique.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I keep my demo talks fresh and engaging?

To keep your demo talks fresh and engaging, consider rotating the recipes or products you showcase, incorporating seasonal themes, and using storytelling to connect with your audience. Additionally, asking for feedback after each demo can help you understand what resonates with your guests and what can be improved.
