I'm making a "Black Forest Trifle" for a potluck tomorrow. I'm using layers of devil's food cake, unsweetened (stabilized) whipped cream, and cherry pie filling.

Am I leaving anything out? Suggestions? Improvements?

Maybe just some chocolate curls for the top?

Drugs for all the people that go into a diabetic shock coma after eating it.

I was going to use Cherry Pie Filling on the top and Whipped Cream rosettes around the circumference. Using whipped cream on the top with chocolate curls might be easier. Thanks Becky.

Echoing Becky. Add chocolate to the top. Curls sure are purdier than regular ole shavings.

My recipe calls for chocolate bar crumbled between the layers and the curls. :)

Oh and the cherry/cranberry juice.

It's diabetes in a Trifle Bowl. Thank you, Gracie

Frequently Asked Questions

What ingredients do I need for a Black Forest Trifle?

To make a Black Forest Trifle, you will need chocolate cake or brownies, cherry pie filling, whipped cream, and chocolate shavings. You can also add a splash of cherry liqueur for extra flavor if desired.

How do I layer the ingredients in the trifle?

Start by breaking the chocolate cake or brownies into bite-sized pieces and layer them at the bottom of your trifle dish. Next, add a layer of cherry pie filling, followed by a layer of whipped cream. Repeat the layers until you reach the top of the dish, finishing with whipped cream and chocolate shavings on top.

Can I make the Black Forest Trifle ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the Black Forest Trifle ahead of time. It is best to assemble it a few hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld, but avoid making it too far in advance as the cake may become soggy. Store it in the refrigerator until you're ready to serve.

What can I substitute for cherry pie filling?

If you don't have cherry pie filling, you can use fresh or frozen cherries, or even raspberry or strawberry filling as an alternative. Just make sure to adjust the sweetness to your taste, as some fruits may be more tart than others.

How do I store leftover Black Forest Trifle?

Leftover Black Forest Trifle should be covered and stored in the refrigerator. It is best enjoyed within 2-3 days, as the layers may start to lose their texture over time. Make sure to keep it sealed to maintain freshness.
