Any Fellow Food Bank Coordinators Out There?

I am PEI's Food Bank Coordinator for 2008 and don't have any experience with this. I just wonder what other Coordinators are doing. I want to start planning the fundraiser, but would like to do something a little different and was looking for some ideas from anyone. I know you guys have tons!!

1. Host a food drive: Ask local businesses, schools, churches and other community organizations to collect non-perishable food items. Have them set aside a week or two to focus on the food drive and provide collection bins, flyers and other materials to help promote it.2. Hold a bake sale: Ask volunteers to donate baked goods and snacks to be sold at your fundraiser. You can set up tables in a public place, like a park or mall, or ask a local church or business to host the event.3. Coordinate a 5K run: Ask local runners and fitness enthusiasts to join in a 5K fun run to raise money for your food bank. Set up a registration page online to collect donations for participation.4. Have a movie night: Ask a local theater to host a special screening of an older movie that you pay for. Sell tickets for admission and have volunteers staff the event.5. Raffle off prizes: Ask local businesses to donate prizes for a raffle. Hold the raffle at your food bank or another public space and charge a fee for tickets.6. Organize a car wash: Find a public space (like a parking lot) to host a car wash. Charge a fee for car washes and use the proceeds to benefit your food bank.7. Plan a bowling tournament: Host a bowling tournament at a local bowling alley. Charge a fee for participation and use the proceeds to benefit your food bank.8. Arrange a yard sale: Ask local businesses and individuals to donate items to sell at a yard sale. Have volunteers staff the event and collect the proceeds.9. Hold a charity auction: Ask local businesses and individuals to donate items to be auctioned off at a charity auction. Charge a fee for admission and collect the proceeds for your food bank.
