I'm making spaghetti for dinner tonight. I only have plain sausage so I would like to add italian seasoning to it. How much do you think I should add to a pound of sausage? TIA

Ok I will start with that... I am going to put it in the meat and let let it sit for awhile before I cook it.... so that the meat may absorb some of the flavors.

I simply add until it smells/taste rigtht.

Hi there! As a Pampered Chef consultant, I would recommend adding about 1-2 tablespoons of Italian seasoning to a pound of sausage. This will give it a nice, flavorful kick without overpowering the dish. Happy cooking!

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of Italian seasoning should I use for plain sausage?

You can use a variety of Italian seasoning blends, which typically include herbs like oregano, basil, thyme, and rosemary. You can also opt for a specific blend that suits your taste preferences, or even create your own mix using dried herbs.

How much Italian seasoning should I add to the sausage?

A good starting point is about 1 to 2 teaspoons of Italian seasoning per pound of sausage. You can adjust the amount based on your personal taste and the intensity of the seasoning you prefer.

Should I add the Italian seasoning before or after cooking the sausage?

It's best to add the Italian seasoning while the sausage is cooking. This allows the flavors to meld and infuse into the meat. You can sprinkle it in during the browning process for optimal flavor.

Can I use fresh herbs instead of dried Italian seasoning?

Yes, fresh herbs can be a great alternative! If using fresh herbs, you may want to use about three times the amount compared to dried herbs, as fresh herbs have a milder flavor. Add them towards the end of cooking to preserve their flavor.

What other ingredients can I add to enhance the flavor of the sausage?

In addition to Italian seasoning, you can enhance the flavor by adding minced garlic, chopped onions, or even red pepper flakes for some heat. Bell peppers and mushrooms also make great additions to the dish.
